Solved Windows Live Messenger 2011

An alumni of mine has installed Windows Live Essentials 2011 about a month ago.
He asked me if and how to return to Windows Live Messenger 0416 version. He somehow does not like the new version.
He knows how to uninstall the 2011 version, but he does not know whether he has to google for the previous version from the net and install it, or conversion is done automatically upon uninstalling 2011 version, like IE8 back to IE7.
*** Just the 2011 Mesenger. Not everything. ***

Thank you.

Re: RE : Windows Live Messenger 2011

It is different to uninstall messenger first go to

Start>Control Panel (Classic View) > Programs and Features

then click uninstall Windows live essentials and then select the programs you want to uninstall from the list

After that all the programs that you have installed will be gone and you will have to Download the old version to install it

Hope This Helps,
Josh

Sorry, that can not be right.
Last time I had the previous version of Windows Live Essentials ( the whole package ), I had problem with the messenger. I went to Programs and Features > Windows Live Essentials > uninstall > select Windows Live messenger > uninstall.
I only uninstalled the messenger. The rest were intact.
Same procedures should work with 2011 WLE. Yes ?

So, if my assumption is correct, the question remains same as I asked in my original post.
Does he have to go to the web and look for Messenger 0146 version ?
Or, the computer will revert it back to previous version of Messenger, like IE8 back to IE7.

Yes if you read my post you can Uninstall more than one Windows Live Essentials program like Messenger only the ones you select will be uninstalled

Also he will have to go and look for the 0146 Messenger Version

Though It may not work for some programs are updated to 2011

He may get an error saying "Messenger cannot be installed because you have the most recent version"

It may not be the exact message

Hope This Helps,
Josh

Thank you.
I had been googling for the previous version without success.
I'll just tell him to live with the new one until I run into an older version.

According to Michael Santovec MVP (in the Messenger Forum where I asked this question), the following is the situation:

To go back you have to uninstall ALL of Windows Live Essentials 2011 (Messenger, Mail, Writer, Photo Gallery, Movie Maker, Family Safety, Windows Live Mesh, Bing Bar), then install the 2009 version. You can't mix and match versions.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Hey!
Sorry, don't mean to bump or hijack the thread.
Where can I download the 2009 version? Changed to the 2011 version, but really don't like it.
Thanks,
Again, don't mean to bump or hijack.

I'm not sure, but the version is 14 something and 2011 is 15 something, so this may be what you want. Be warned that I've heard uninstalling 2011 is a bear and sometimes prevents installing 2009 even when uninstalled. I'd use Revo on 2011 to be more sure. Again, I don't know for sure if this is it, but it's all I could find other than torrent sites after 30 minutes of searching. Download Free Windows Live Essentials, Windows Live Essentials 14.0.8064.0206 Download.

I hope this helps and is what you're looking for.

Good luck!

You're quite welcome. I don't care for 2011 much myself, but not so much that I'm about to downgrade. I'll live with it - I don't really use much of it anyway.

Take care, man!
