Solved windows media player 12 for vista

How come there isn't an update for Windows Media Player 12, it was awesome when I used it windows 7. Didn't need any other media player except when playing mkv files, which i used VLC media player for.


Is there an option, or a download that won't comprise my system and allow me to use Windows Media Player as my default media player, or do I just need to continue using VLC media player?

Windows Media Player 12 definitely comes with lighter and brighter user interface as well as several new features having built-in support for many popular audio and video formats. Unfortunately, Windows Media Player 12 is currently not available for download, for Vista.
Windows media player 12 will be offered through the Windows updates once it is available for Windows Vista.

You may want to keep yourself updated with all the downloads released from Microsoft, from the link below.

Not really... I figured it wasn't since I check before I ask, I was asking is there like a download or something that will work within Windows Media Player 11 that works similar to Windows Media Player 12 without compromising it.

Why do use VLC for mkv videos? Just download the codec from:

And then you will be able to play it in WMP.

Perhaps someone here can help me out. I get a e-mail with a attachment that contains a video with music. So I click on the paper clip and and it ask me if I want to open this file etc. and I click yes but nothing happens. I then open window media player 11 and ther it is all ready playing. Lets say I not interested in this one so I click on the X to close and it disappears but the musice keeps playing. Question, is ther a down load where I can get all the Codec etc. that I need to make the player play almost ever file that I nee to open. Also how to set up the auto play for this. Thanks a million you people are great.

Would you mind starting a new thread containing any information on the problem that you think could help us to solve it. The reason I ask you to start a new thread, is that by doing this others will be able to benefit from any responses to the question.

Very good, easy to use, the best part is that it can play all file formats. As soon as i downloaded this I made it my default player for all file formats, because it can play them all.

I would recommend not downloading any third party WMP for these may contain Trogans and Viruses

Hello, I am having proble playing a .wmv files when I receive then in e-mail. I can hear the sound but the media player is not even on my screen. I have to click on the icon to bring it up and then click on the attachment and it will play. So if there is a solution and I know there is because of the nice floks on this forum please advise. Yes I have the version 11 and wish I had keep Windows 7 Pro. but didn't want to spend the two hundred for a product key. Ok just tried again and here is what I have to do to watch the video. Click on the attachment. Then click on the Icon to bring up the player, then hit play on the player and the video starts. Is it auto play or ??

I think I solved the problem. I went into the auto play settings and picked the option Play using media center and saved the settings. I then went back to my e-mail files and clicked on the attachment and bam the player jumped into full screen and then I clicked play and it did. If anyone has a answer to fine tune this version let me know. Again thanks and maybe this will help someone else.
