Windows registry problems

I'm having problems with the windows registry file.

Whenever I start the computer it says:
"Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing, or corrupt."

It says that I should insert my installation disk, but all I have is an "upgrade" disk to upgrade the system from XP to Vista. Any help?

Welcome to Vista Forums.

What kind of Upgrade disk do you have? If it is a normal retail Vista Upgrade Installation DVD, then you can use it to boot from to do a System Restore.

If it is an Anytime Updrade DVD, then you will not be able to use it to just repair your Vista. This tutorial will show you how to create a Recovery Disc that you can use instead to boot from to do a System Restore.
