Windows Sideshow without another display?

I want to try Windows Sideshow but I do not have a monitor to spare nor do I have a VGA splitter. I remember hearing that developers used a sort of emulator that opened a small sideshow window on their main monitor. Is there a way I can get this or emulate it myself?

What is Sideshow? If your playing one app while having another running you can simply resize the individual windows or chose to "show windows side by side, or cascade windows, etc.
I have a feeling I'm not understanding correctly.

Windows Sideshow is a Windows Vista (I think 7 too) feature that uses a second display that showed information from email, Windows Media Player, and other supported programs.

That looks like the "sidebar." What throws me is the notification area features are on the top. On the other hand, I was able to rotate the whole taskbar so that it is vertical on the right side (I haven't figured out how to put it back to the bottom) such that it resembles what you show. Where did you get that screenshot?

The picture is one of the first results after looking up "Windows Sideshow" and switching to the images tab. It has nothing to do with the windows sidebar.

The other day I tried to find information on sideshow via googling it. Never game up with anything definitive. This morning I searched with Bing. It found this- Windows SideShow - Wikipedia. As mentioned there, Sideshow gadgets are implemented in the Sidebar options. However, I guess the idea of Sideshow is to display selected information about a system on another device. I don't have time this morning to pursue the details.

I'd still like a link to where you got that screen shot.

I've been using Vista for 15 years and didn't realize that there's Windows Sideshow selection in Control Panel where you can select the gadgets to be used in a Sideshow. On the down side, you need to have a secondary device that's Sideshow compatible and you need to set it up using instructions from the device manufacturer.

I highly doubt you could get instructions for a feature of a 15 year old operating system.

For some reason I downloaded this file a year or two ago- winsdksetup (1).exe

You can try running it as administrator. I suggest setting the Windows Updater to "Never check for updates" first. Although I don't think it's necessary, you might want to set up a system restore point before running it.

That's great! Nowadays the download link just takes me to the generic Microsoft download page.

Yes. It seems like its mean for Windows 10 though.

Actually, I think it's for Win 7. The version is coincidently 10.........................
I guess it didn't do anything for you.
