windows update error 80070490

i have a Compaq 32 bit system with 1.00gb of ram and windows vista and for the last few months i have had an error code when i try to run windows update. the same 8 updates fail every time with an error code 80070490. newer updates install fine but not these 8.:

all fail every time
any help would be appreciated

yes and off the website and they don't work. i was looking around the windows folder and i found a text document called windows update and inside every line looked like this:

thats what i was worried about as it came pre installed i have the sireal key on the side but no install disk

I'm not sure if there are vista iso's available on the internet. you could google one. also don't think i can post a link here :(. maybe you could borrow one from your neighbor/friend?

i know where i coud get one but it would be illegal but if i used my serial key would it still be a genuine windows?

i have got a vista home premium iso and i follow the steps on the windows update error code 80070490 mirosoft support page. it says to select upgarde windows from the cd but the cd says upgrade has been disabled please insert a version of windows that is newer than the current version. what do i do now?

Hello Ben,

Since you have a preinstalled factory OEM Vista, you will not be able to do a repair install.

You might see if doing a system restore using a restore point dated before you had this problem may help.

If not, then you may need to do a factory recovery to reinstall Vista. :(

turns ou if yor restart with the disk inserted you can repair from there so going to buy a external hard drive to back up my data and go from there
