Solved Windows Vista Biz and Ubuntu together!

Hello,
This is my first thread. my son and I installed Ubuntu as a second OS on my HP computer desktop. Everything went well except that when I am in Ubuntu and want to go back to Windows, I get a black screen with white cursor and it will NOT go back to Windows Vista. So the only way for me to get back is to use my original Vista disc and click on "repair system", it will go through several steps and then it will eventually get me back in Windows again. I have a bunch of updates to be installed, but when I do that after re-booting I am back in Ubuntu and then I have to use my Vista disk again to get into Windows.
We believe that my Windows Vista may be corrupted somewhere, is it possible to use my Windows disk and re-install Windows? I have several file back ups on my external HD and special files on several flash drives.
Thank you for your advice!

And a very Happy Thanksgiving to you and all your loved ones.
If you have an external hard drive, you may want to make an image of your hard drive with the free Macrium. If anything goes wrong you can reinstall in about 15 minutes, using the image.

You do not want to install it over the copy that is still there, you will have problems. You want to install by booting from the DVD, you will have everything fresh and clean, but you have to reinstall stuff.
You may have problems installing over what you already have since you now have Vista SP2 and the CD is probably just Vista. If they are both the same, however, just boot the computer and then put in the CD and it will install over what you have.
