Windows Vista Dissapoints me and many others

I remember when the internet started... I was on BITNET back in 1988. It just tied universities together. Bitnet Listservs. I connected from home using a VT100 emulator on my Amiga A1000 (AMIGA-DOS 1.1) with 1 meg of ram, and a floppy drive. Before that I had a Sinclair ZX-81 with 1 kilobyte of ram, later bought the 16 kilobyte ram pack. While I could have used a modem with the Sinclair, I didn't have the money.

Sinece then I have used ms-dos 3.2, 3.3, 4.01; Windows for Work Groups 3.1, 3.x; WIN95, Win98, Win98se, WinXP, Vista; Amiga 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 2.01; Cray YMP-2 which had a superset of Unix; 3 versions of linux; 2 versions of x86 unix; and some others I have probably fogotten, like the DEC VAX 11/730 I did VAX Pascal on.

I have been doing tech support for 25 years now.

For Intel machines, I prefere WinXP over Vista.

For Motorola machines, I prefer my Amiga computer, just cannot get parts for it.

In my opinion, Vista could have been much better.

There is no need to complain about Vista. If you don't like it, get something else. There are plenty of options. I myself love Vista. I run it on 4 systems - and that since day 1 - and never really had any serious problems ( except my own mistakes). As one of the posters said: It is not Vista, it is the user. Vista is not an appliance and requires a minimum of knowledge.

i completely agree. i have vista home premium x64 and xp professional. XP is so much better, it uses less resources, it best for notebook users because it does not hog system resources so it conserves battery life, and cant even handle some of the programs that XP is able to.

Vista is not meant for low spec machines.

If you use it on a decent machine it is an excellent o/s , fast and responsive.

My Vista SP2 x64 installation boots faster than Windows 7.

Arpanet not internet is what the government had. And you had to have special permission to get an account. I didn't have one back then. I got internet in 1991, before then I was on Bitnet.

Let me start off by saying that I really like XP. I have used it since it came out and it did have it's problems in the beginning, just like any other OS. And also, just like any other OS, it got better over time. Mostly because of patches/service packs and the fact that manufacturers finally switch to using the newer OS after a while so things actually start to work decently.

I had an old Windows98 computer when XP came out that we loaded XP on and it would just crawl. Took about 10 minutes or more to boot up. It ran, but barely. In essence, that is what people are doing when they load Vista or even 7 on an older XP machine. The hardware configurations that are meant for the newer OS's are more advanced than the older OS's. You will not have an optimal experience with a new OS with old hardware. That is just the way it is. Sure there are people who get lucky with old hardware and don't have a problem with a new OS, but the majority will see problems, great or small.

Having just built a brand new machine (see my system specs on the bottom) and installed Vista Ultimate x64, I think it is a great OS. Things are in different places, which can be frustrating at times, but that isn't what makes an OS good. People don't like change, so anytime something does change they will gripe and complain to no end until they are able to figure it out and get use to it. Vista is fast (if you have newer hardware), my system can completely reboot in less than a minute, secure, and pretty darn stable. It has a lot of new features that greatly improve on XP's.

The only problem that I have had with it is that when I tried to get SP2 on it, it got stuck in the "Installing updates: 3 of 3" loop. So I just did a system restore to before I installed it and will try again at a later date, probably later this week.

So yes, there are problems, but what can you expect? At least Microsoft works at their products to make them better. I really don't mind having to install a few patches if it means my system will run that much better. Now I just have to wait for more x64 support and a x64 game in the future! :D

Well, I have dealt with over 1,000 different PCs in the last 15 years. Not all of them had problems due to users breaking something.

I have had computers at university and my previous job that failed to boot right out of the box brand new. So the only way they could have been faulted was by the manufacturer.

If you have not had a problem with a computer, regardeless of the operating system, other than user problems, consider yourself lucky.

If you enjoy what ever operating system you are using, then enjoy it. But don't expect everyopne who complains about it to be wrong, or having self-caused problems.

Computers and operating systems are not fool-proof. And that doesn't count what users do to them.

I loved XP......used it from the month it came out, up until last year. Loved it and knew it inside out. It was simple, never had any real problems with it at all.

Vista isn't exactly as simple, and I got it out of curiosity, and quite a while after it was launched. But I love it so far and don't plan on getting 7 until I have to,which shouldn't be anytime soon. I haven't had a single issue with Vista. If you know what you are doing, Vista is awesome. Keep it safe, clean and it'll run forever. All I ever see is user error when it comes to problems with OS's. Too much of this, too much of that, malware, viruses, overclocking a tad too much. Learn to keep all of that crap in check and there won't be a problem. I'm running Vista on this old piece of crap and it runs like a charm, no slower than XP.

Oh....RAM is there to be used. If it's not being used, it's being wasted....why does everyone complain about it using so much RAM? THAT is what it's there for.

Mine is a non-branded system btw. I've built all my pc's from scratch. After having an HP many many years ago, i'll never buy branded, and I assume SOME things could cause problems with Vista in that sense. Being without all of the bloatware, and having 100% freedom within ur PC helps a lot.

Oh, and screw MAC....overpriced paperweight.
