Try booting in safe mode. Maybe you can look through the startup programs using a program that shows them like AutoRuns. You could put AutoRuns on a USB stick to avoid trying to download it onto the machine with network issues.

It might just be something like mapping a network drive that you could switch off if you found the batch file or setting for it.

Describe the network setup? Is there a router involved. If so, reset the router (small button, usually in the back, near the power connection). Then go in and setup the router again. Once done, delete the wireless connection to that router from the laptop then start a new connection.

Sometimes when working on windows servers to authenticate a network share I have to authenticate my ID when connecting to a server on a different domain. Perhaps your situation is similar although you aren't using a domain. Try this, when you get a username/password prompt enter in your ID as follows: computername\username followed by the password; please note that you have to use an ID on the other computer. My theory is that if you just enter in the username it is authenticating using an account on the system that you are on compared to the system that you are connecting to. Does that make sense? You might also be able to use the ipaddress instead of the system name.

If you don't know the computer name log directly into the other computer, click on the start menu, type in cmd and in the black window type in hostname.
