I believe that i'm having issues with a corrupted .dll file. So far I've noticed that its affected Windows Photo Gallery and Winamp.
Anytime I try to open these programs I get this error message:
I also get this error message when I right click and try to "preview" my pictures:
I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1. I've scanned my computer for possible viruses and spyware. I've tried system restore to no avail. I tried to replace the .dll file itself. I've also tried running the system file checker. This is what happened:
Any help would be greatly appreciate. Thanks in advance!
Hello essgee,
The first thing you need to do is to install all the Vista updates, and service packs 1&2.
Run the file checker again, sfc/scannow as administrator, this will only repair one file at a time on each pass, so if there are multiple damaged files, it will need multiple passes to fix them.
Also, just to be safe, download and run this free app.
Ok so I downloaded all of the vista updates and I also ran Malwarebytes scanner (no infections were found).
I tried the sfc again and got the same message.
And when I tried to download Service Pack 2. I got this error:
I downloaded the System Update Readiness Tool with no luck and tried all of the other trouble shooting steps from the Microsoft Website. Could this issue be related?
If you're having issues installing the "System Readiness Tool" you may have some serious issues, maybe you should do a repair install to see if that helps, have a look at the tutorial at the link below; be sure to keep us informed.
Ok i went ahead and did a repair install. It went well until everything finished up and I logged back in. This "setup" window has been active for a long time and nothing is happening. What now?
