Winrar Extraction Problem

Hello all!

I am trying to extract some files out of a folder that was zipped up by another person but whenever I try to do it, only some of the files are extracted and a window pops up with a triangular exclamation mark explaining that the path file exceeds 260 characters and is too long for some of the songs.

Now my problem is that when I extract, the author of this zip archive made it so that a folder is automatically created and the files are extracted to that folder.
I wish to know how I can somehow extract these files to my own folder without that subfolder being made because that sub folder has a very long folder name.

All the files are in the zip archive and working but the path file name is just so long and I don't know how to stop that subfolder from being created.

Hello Andrew,

Download and install the free 7-Zip: Download

Now open the zip acrchive with it and manually create a folder (on your Desktop) and highlight and drag everything except that long folder name into this new folder on your Desktop. Open the long folder in 7-Zip and copy the contents to a new folder in that folder on your Desktop.

All done!

Also, if a file is broken is there anything you can do about it? Or do I have to contact the author of the zip archive and ask them to reupload a working version of the file.

Hello,

The chances are you need them to reupload it because this sort of corruption is almost always major. If however, you have a tiny corruption, maybe a recovered file, try these freeware tools:

Why not download 7zip? I used 7zip for quite a while and never had any problems with it. It also has a command line interface that can be very useful sometimes.
