Solved Word 2000 Normal.dot Question

When I open a Word 2000 document, it uses the styles that were stored in that document. Is there a way that when I open a Word 2000 document it uses the styles that are in Normal.dot right from the start?

Please clarify what you mean. Are you wanting to edit that?

I think he wants to open a new document with the Normal style.

In Word, click on Home. On the right hand side, click on Change Styles. Click on the down arrow to show the style gallery. If Normal isn't already selected, then select it. Then click on the other down arrow under Change Styles and set it to the default.

Sorry, don't have a Home to click on, nor do I have a "Change Styles" anywhere that I know of in my application (Word 2000).

Yes, I want to open a new document with the Normal style, but I don't want to use the default Normal style, the one you get just after installing Word.

After thinking about my problem, I've concluded that whenever I create a new document by clicking the icon at the extreme left, that document opens with the default Normal.dot. If I create a new document by clicking File > New Document, a screen pops up wherein I can select which template to use.

So what I did was modify the default Normal.dot to contain the styles I wanted, then saved it with a new name, then closed Word 2000. Next, I used WinExplorer to delete the default Normal.dot, then rename the template I just created to Normal.dot, then move Normal.dot into the appropriate folder (c:/users/me/app data....).

Works for me, anyway...

Sorry, I have v2007.

Look under Format, Styles. It should be set to Normal. If it's not, you should be able to set it and, hopefully, it will stay as the default. You might look in the Word help files for more information.

Oops, looks like I'm 2 years late...
No I never did get it so all of my Word 2000 documents look the same. Each one has a couple differences with the styles. Some styles have a larger font size than others, for example. But not to worry, I'm getting along okay. Thank you for your follow-up!
