I recently installed Windows Vista on my Toshiba L745D Laptop, but I seem to be having a problem. After the installation was completed. I noticed the network icon had a red x. I also realized that The LED for wireless isn't blinking. When I hovered over the network Icon It said "You are currently not connected to any networks" I clicked connect to network, however It isn't finding my network. What can I do to solve this issue? Your help would be appreciated.


Edit: I just checked my Device Manager and there was no Network Adapter listed, so I believe I have to install a network adapter. Please let me know.

Some laptops may have a switch or button on the keyboard to turn off Wi-Fi. You might double check to see if this could be the issue.

In addition, make sure that you have the latest driver installed for your wireless network adapter. If needed, you may have to download it on another computer to be able to copy over and install on the laptop.

They don't seem to have A network adapter for Windows Vista. What do you suggest I do now? I also do have the wifi switch on however It's not blinking.

Edit: I tried plugging in the Ethernet Cable, that didn't work either.

Did you try installing the wireless driver to see if it may install anyways? Sometimes they will.

It shows the laptop comes with Windows 7, and an option to upgrade or clean install to Windows 8. Did you want to install either one to have supported drivers available?

I don't mind installing Windows 7 but I'm going to give Windows 10 Preview a shot. Are you liking It so far?

I just successfully installed Windows 7 and I ran the Network Adapter I downloaded from Toshiba. I ran the setup, It prompted me, I pressed okay, nothing happened. At this moment I'm downloading Windows 10 to see if that solves the issue.

I'm installing Windows 10 so I will let you know If It works with Ethernet or wirelessly.

Edit: Good News, Windows 10 found the network, I guess the reason they weren't working before because they are older version of Windows. The bad news is right when It was finished installing my laptop over heated and turned off.

If you haven't already, blow out the cooling vents and heat sinks on the laptop real good to see if that may help with the over heating if it's just a too much dust issue.

If you don't have a compressor, they have cheap cans of compressed air like below to help make it easier.
