Random BSOD (Kernel Data Inpage Error)

Running an Acer Aspire 5735 with Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit OS.

Okay guys, not sure if this is fixable, was getting help from an expert on another forum, but not heard anything for a week on the problem. Which makes me think it's a hard problem to fix or the one expert on the forum is away for Christmas. So far the following has been done or tested;

gone to C: and checked for errors, all clear. MalwareBytes all clear and anti virus all clear too

I have attached the mini dump file, and the last bit of information I had received before he vanished was;

ataport.SYS
mup.sys

Test your hard drive for any issues
Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

After that boot into safe mode
run this command "sfc /scannow"

Now I went to the website he recommended, and do not know which manufacturers diagnostic software to run for my system. I believe the option for me would be the following as it says any computer, and non of the others seem set for an Acer;

Specifically:

SeaTools for Windows v1.2.0.6 (10.15.2011)
SeaTools for Windows has replaced SeaTools Online. SeaTools for Windows is a comprehensive, easy-to-use diagnostic tool that helps you quickly determine the condition of the disc drive in your external hard drive, desktop or notebook computer. It includes several tests that will examine the physical media on your Seagate disc drive and any non-Seagate disc drive.

SeaTools for Windows tests USB, 1394, ATA (PATA/IDE), SATA and SCSI drives. It install onto your system. SeaTools for Windows is completely data safe.

You can run SeaTools for Windows to test your disc drive if your PC has:
Microsoft Windows 7, Vista, XP or 2000.
Microsoft .NET Framework v2.0 - Available for download (approximately 23 MB) from Microsoft Corporation: Software, Smartphones, Online, Games, Cloud Computing, IT Business Technology, Downloads. Search the site for .NET 2.0 or go directly there.
VGA 1024x768 or greater graphics capability
- Download SeaTools for Windows (32-bit) Setup file
- View Additional Information

Thankyou in advance for the help in fixing this problem, much appreciated!

Oh I don't know Yard Dog, I just double clicked the desktop icon and it said the other I used a week or two ago was out of date and that it would update itsself, which it did, before I restarted the computer then ran it?

Do you have any idea why this bsod is appearing my friend?

My Computer

I know my mbam, i have and use paid version and you may want to hit the update button and give Lottie the latest run results. He is your BSOD helper, just making note of your data base. By the way, mine just updated about an hour ago, why i know latest version is what i posted .

Hi,

I have asked for assistance from the "Top expert" on these matters & they will be looking here shortly.

In the mean time what actions have you completed on the other forum? Was any viruses or malware found & removed?

Please give as much detail as possible!

This entry was found in the log files: -

Do you know what this is?

Thankyou Lottiemansion! Yes, Steam is a programme that I was forced to install when installing Football Manager 2012. It's kind of an anti-piracy programme where it registers the code. And now thinking about it, this was installed about the 21st of October, seems like a big increase in dumps since this was installed, coincidence?

Since starting this thread here, I have actually had quite a bit of activity off the other thread. I won't post the link here as may be deemed as advertising or whatever, but to sum it up..

Done all the checks here, and been told to Western Digital Scorpio Blue drive Data the .ISO of Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for dos is what you want to use, D/L and burn to a CD then boot from the CD to run the test that way it takes any windows/drivers issue out of the equation.

Just got my CD and will do this later this evening provided your expert does not say otherwise, as it's unchartered ground for me really.

And also another very clever person told me; "0xc000185 error code is one that's passed by a device operated by a driver in that it has reported an I/O error to the driver, and the driver is passing it to Windows kernel stating what the device told it. This occurred during a paging operation, which means it involves the drive that holds the paging file.

While this can be caused by driver problems, it's the least likely. Most often this is caused by improper BIOS/RAID setup, or just a plain bad drive controller or drive."

So I think next step after the running app in MS-DOS is to accept it's a failed hard-drive/driver and purchase new laptop!

Thankyou all for your effort here

Hi,

Jacee has pointed me to an error in your Windows system file structure. I am looking for an answer for it now.

81820000 81a24000 win32k win32k.sys unavailable (00000000)
81a40000 81a49000 TSDDD TSDDD.dll unavailable (00000000)
81a60000 81a6e000 cdd cdd.dll unavailable (00000000)

Open the DOS Command prompt (Open an accessories "DOS command prompt" window) as an administrator & run this command

sfc /scannow

Repeat the command three times to fix errors. Please post the log file too. OK?

Not good, seems to hit some kind of snag at 78%! The suggestion at the other place still seems to be running the CD from startup and disk testing. Although have also been warned that it's very strenuous on the drive, and as they suspect it's dying anyway, it could finish it completely so would prefer if there are any other routes to try them first.

Hello!

You are putting of the inevitable. Every single one of your dump files blames a bad hard disk or disk controller. Every other piece of evidence points to this as well. There is no way you can get out of the fact that every piece of evidence does not point at malware, or anything like that, but a bad hard disk. Your other two helpers have latched onto this, and you need to follow their advice.

For those who are watching, 0xc000185 in the dump files shows a paging operation I/O failure. What driver is blamed is pretty much irrelevant. Although it could be cause by a driver, 98% of the time it won't be, and with all this other evidence pointing to the drive, that percentage increases again.

Delaying backing up your drive, and testing your drive is pretty much only wasting time. I work at both forums you have threads at, and that may have something to do with why your thread over there suddenly had helpers all over it ;)

I really don't mean to sound harsh, and I hope that this post hasn't come out like that - it certainly wasn't intended, but hard disks do fail, and kidding ourselves that there might be other possibilites other than hard disk/disk controller is not helping at the moment, in my opinion.

No, no not harsh at all. I appreciate all the effort, I was just living in the hope that somebody would be able to offer some alternative, I will run the test in a little while when I have some work sent off, soon as though may not have a computer after the test!

So just to get this right, I have my CD with the software to test burnt on it, how do I boot from this as startup instead of Windows opening up?

Thank you for your understanding :)

I wish you the best of luck - that it isn't the hardware, or at the very least isn't the disk controller.

Fingers crossed, and please let us know!

Richard

EDIT: You had some questions! Basically, just put the CD in the drive (this special CD will be marked as bootable) and you should get a message "Press any key to boot from the CD.....". Press any key within 5 seconds. Then the test should begin.

If you don't get that message, please just tell us, and we can sort you out (at that point, it will involve one tiny change to BIOS settings - not a big or difficult job)

Okay apparently typical of me and this machine! I sent the work off, and as you said went into BIOS and set to boot from CD as number one in the priority list. The CD is in, yet its just bypassing it and going straight to Windows.

Not sure what's going on, if something is missing or something? On the CD I have the file "Diag504fCD" and in this is is two text documents, two MS DOS apps named "IBMDOS" and "IBMBIO", and another, possibly MS DOS app too named "DLGDIAG5".

Not sure where to go from here now so I will wait for some assistance, thanks guys!

Hi,

Where did the CD come from & is it a boot disk?
What are you hoping to achieve with this software?

If, your hard disk is failing you need a replacement!
