Black screen when starting my laptop

Hi,

Since a few days, I have a black screen after Bios finnished starting and before the 'Microsoft Corporation' bar at bottom is blinking, so that I need to manually shut down drastically with the power OFF button.

This occured only if I 'm working on my laptop during a few hours.

If I'm working for a few minutes and I shut down my laptop, I can start without any troubles.

I tried to fix it with 'Repair my Computer' (F8) at starting up. Also I tried SFC and CHKDSK command in normal mode during the user session and a restoration to a previous point.

Please, help me to fix this issue, thanks.

I've just noticed that if the laptop is off during a few hours and I start again after hours, I got this black screen. I meant that when I'm working during all the day and then I go to bed. I will OFF my laptop but on the morning, when starting again, this black screen is appearing and I couldn't reach the session windows page.

This, not occured if working a few hours and after a few minutes, I start again my laptop.

You need to try to boot in Safe Mode. Hit f8 after your bios and it should boot into safe mode.

If you have problems there, there's big problems.

I've just tried in Safe Mode when starting. It was loading all system files when it stopped suddenly loading those files for a while. After 2 minutes, I decided to power off my laptop again. Something is wrong, I don't know what's could be.

Yha, sorry for the delay.

This most likely is hardware or windows install itself. I recommend getting memtest and running a few hours of it to test your memory.
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool
Get the usb key one, and you boot to it and it autoruns.

It'll shows the number of errors and what not.

I check my memory stick during all the night and this morning, and no errors was found.

I also ran the Fujitsu Diagnostic Tool: optical devices, memory ram, hard drive, graphic card, processor, ... No error was found. The 4 test for HDD was lasting during 2H30 min. ;)

I found and cleaned dusty between my fan and the heat sink, maybe the culprit. I will let you know on tomorrow morning. ;)

No, I don't have USB key. I did the test with bootable CD with Memtest inside.

Since the 1th march, I don't have new minidump file created although every morning I got this black screen. Do you think I really need to replace hal.dll ? If yes, is the version for Vista Business 32 bits ?

I also checked this file on Virustotal site and it's not infected.

This is slightly good news as it is a software issue vs a hardware one.

You may have a corrupt install, and it just needs to be repaired. This however is not my area of expertise, so I'm no help.

By renaming and not deleting your copy of hal.dll you will be able to revert back easier if the idea of replacing fails. Just rename it back again.
I am not saying it would work but it may be worth a try.
If you are able to access the windows system32 file without the Ubuntu option that would make things a lot easier to try
Note my signature though, Ideas not instructions.

OK, I will try it, no problem.

Do you know the reason why Vista won't create new minidump files as the issue is still alive.

Please check my last post with the 2 errors: pcmcia and taskscheduler, thanks.

The most important is not the black screen but the following, please read it again :

Since a few days, I have a black screen after Bios finnished starting and before the 'Microsoft Corporation' bar at bottom is blinking, so that I need to manually shut down drastically with the power OFF button.

This occured only if I 'm working on my laptop during a few hours.

If I'm working for a few minutes and I shut down my laptop, I can start without any troubles.

My laptop couldn't start properly as the 'Microsoft Corporation' blinking bar at bottom doesn't appear.
