Re: Blue screens again

Hi scriber, rather then pass this by I figured I'd give you some advice...

You'll have to provide a bit more information of the error code you're getting - when it happens, what it is you're doing when it occurs, the program that's causing it, etc. You'll also need to provide system specs.

Without the requested info, I'm afraid help will be limited to guesswork, or worse yet, no help at all.

Thanks

Re: Blue screens again

Thank you for responding! I have been through support with microsoft, reintalled my os many times, check disk had no errors, bought a new grfx card (did reduced blue screens) and now MS says I have a boot sector virus or my hardware is just not compatible with vista. They have no documentation on the errors I get and said there was nothing more they can do and I should go back to XP!

The random blue screens happen when at idle or during work. Firefox will crash sometimes before or after DWM crashes. I do not game.
The random codes generated are as followed:
0x1E, 0xA, 0x7F, 0x3B, win32k.sys, dxgkrnl.sys (0x7F), system_service_exception (0x3B), irq_not_less_or_equal_to(0xA), etc..

I am at work and will have to confirm at home these codes but I am pretty sure they are accurate since I write down every error. Also in the error log are burst of 4 of the same error which happens at the same time of the blue screens: code integrity deteremined that the hash is not valid. hardisk/volume0/tcpip.sys. Microsoft says this is not related to vista or my BSOD.

I have run AVG and during every scan I get blue screens. Uninstalled that and tryed Spy Bot search and destroy which did Not find anything. This is a brand new clean install more then once.

My system setup is as followed:
AW9d-MAX bios16 w/ E6600@2.4GHz(stock, no oc)
2x2GB Kingston HyperX
Nvidia 9800GTX (182.06)
WD 500GB sata2 hardware level RAID0(stripe)
Dlink DW-552 WiFi Card
OCZ 600W PS
Vista Ultimate 64-bit

I hope this covers what you need to know and provides details. I would love to get to the bottom of this.

What's DWM?

When did you first get these BSOD's??? Question might help you narrow down the cause of the BSOD's. Is it possible you have some bad hardware?

Also try running memtest to see if your memory is functioning correctly - Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

Try running the system without firefox or AVG and see what happens.

And do you have a link for that motherboard? I've never heard of that name brand?

And for future reference, you might want to list your system specs in the system specs box in your profile. This makes it easier for others the find, especially if this problem turns several pages long.

Re: Blue screens again

DWM.exe is Desktop Windows Manager
Mother board OEM is Abit Universal abit > Motherboard, Digital Speakers, iDome, AirPace, Multimedia

I do have my system specs filled in, did it about 30min ago
My memory is brand new straight from Kingston Labs (live local)
plus I ditched my old Nvidia 7600GX2 just bought the 9800GTX a couple days ago which did reduce the blue screens but not eliminate.

The blue screens first started after installing SP1 almost a year ago. Nothing has been the same ever since.

I do not believe I have any bad hardware as it is almost all new and worked perfect before SP1

I uninstalled AVG and still get the errors even when Firefox is not running

I also run Adobe CS4 (photoshop, illustrator)

Being that you said you've reinstalled your OS many times I'm thinking hardware issue. When you reinstalled the OS, did you do a full format as opposed to a quick format on the hard drives?

"bought a new grfx card (did reduced blue screens)" What's that about?

Have you looked at the possibility of having a bad motherboard?

Can you try the system without RAID? And speaking of RAID, do you have the correct drivers loaded as well as the correct settings in the BIOS?

If these questions seem simple, it's just that I don't know what you did or what your computer knowledge is. Sorry.

Hmmm....

I would still test the memory. Just because it's new doesn't mean it can't be defective. I once got some replacement (RMA) RAM sticks straight for Corsair, but one of the sticks was dead on arrival, so you never know. This goes for any piece of hardware.

Just because they worked then, doesn't mean they can't go bad. You hope these things don't happen, but unfortunately they do. Again, since you'e reinstalled the OS many times, it seems to me you need to start looking at the hardware side of things.

Re: Blue screens again

This Stop error message usually occurs during installation when there was an attempt in kernel mode to touch pageable memory at too high a process internal request level (IRQL). Typically, this error occurs when a driver uses an incorrect memory address. Other possible causes of this error include an incompatible device driver, a general hardware problem, or incompatible software.
The IRQL error tells me access to RAM had failed and has reported an error while trying to access it, windows has a memory diagnostic tool in advanced startup options on the boot, try that first.

My original grfx card was a 7950GX2 and after sp1 it continued to crash non-stop and give blue screens. I even tried many other older "stable" drivers and they crashed too. so I got a 9800 and the errors stopped. or at least nvidia stopped crashing. I suppose I could install the OS on a single drive.. I will need to confirm the raid driver version I am currently using. In the BIOS I have it set in RAID mode, however there is also ACHI mode.

I will test the memory with the program you mentioned as soon as I get home and give the results.

Also regarding the format, when I boot with my vista cd and come to the select drive volume to install on step, my raid shows here, it is visible. I did click format before but I only recall seeing one type of format and it happened quick when I did it. Is there another way I should format?

There is also a driver button on this step. If I do have an older driver can I just simply load the new one here, even though my raid volume is still visible? It will overwrite the older raid driver files will it not?

Mr Needs I recall a friend of mine saying he thought it was the Wifi Card causing all the problems. I am using a Dlink DWA-552. Something about the chip set having known issues with vista. I think he even said it might have the same IRQL as something else. I haven't heard anything about this. do you know? He is a professional but extremely busy and almost near impossible to get a hold of to ask questions.

I will try the mem diag tool also when I get home and report back.

Re: Blue screens again

dunno if this helps but I too was getting the same problems and after digging around still no definite answer to my problems so I asked a friend who is a "proper tec guy" he advised to adjust the timings for my RAM and ever since no more BSOD's
