Solved Web vid replay probs with Standard User

I have three User accounts- Administrator, Standard and Guest(almost always off),

I use Adm account for downloading, up-dating and tweakings. I use Standard account for most surfing and PC common usage (e-mail, social networks, e-bay, etc).

Recently, I started to have selective (NOT ALL SITES) web vid replay failure ONLY with Standard User Account. My Administrator User Account has absolutely ZERO probs with all replays.

My initial attempts to solve the probs include several Sytem Restores, unstalling and re-installing recent updates, unstalling and re-installing recent softwares, using all IE browsers (32, 64 and no add-on) and multiple anti-malware scans....all to no avail.

Add-ons and Internet options are identically set up in both accounts. All media players are shared.

Otherwise, my PC works excellently.

What I would do is set up another standard account as a test.
The user account may be corrupted
You can also try an sfc scan, run 3 times if errors are found

Also try with a clean boot and see if a startup program is the cause of the problem

I forgot to mention I had done at least three sfc scans...and several reboots.

Other than this prob, my standard account seems just fine. No other prob.

Test in another user acccount.

Newly created account has the same prob as my old current Standard account and Guest account. They maintained the same problem when changed to Administrator type. I tried to change Administrator account to standard type to find out if it will have same problem but my system would not allow it. Apparently the original Administrator account cannot be demoted to standard type.

This is one problem that really puzzles me. I do not have a clue whom to call for help. Is it Vista? IE? MSN? Java? HP? Flash player? Or a live PC specialist?

Try a different browser, maybe Firefox.

I've heard of it. As always, my concern is how easy is it to unstall it?

You dont want to uninsall, it should be kept on to notify of any updates.
But
If you want to uninstall, just make a system restore point, before installing.
Then everything can be put back just like it was, but I suggest that you keep and use the software. You will be notifed of any updates to your security software and other software.

Hi Rich...just a reminder, other than this puzzling sporadic minor glitch with Standard account web vid viewing, my laptop is functioning tip-top level, as good and as speedy as when it was brand new 4 yrs ago.

At this point I am leaning towards this: what is it in my unchangeable/undemotable Administrator account that my other accounts do not have? All of the sudden. I did not have this problem before Christmas.

That was my first thought, too, that is why I asked you to do the clean boot.

Did you do a full anti virus scan and download and run a full scan with malwarebytes?

Are you sure that everything is up to date in the problem account?

My smart alecky 9 yr old nephew who was born with computer chips thinks it is some discrepancy in system set ups between my accounts. It cannot be third party as virus, vid players and sites as they will equally affect my accounts if they were identically set up. The fact that AdDministrator account has ZERO problems with Vid and pic playback suggests it was set up differently from the other accounts.

What does my Administrator account have that my other accounts are missing? How do I make all accounts identically set up?

The only difference between the adminsitrator and standard user is that Administrator can make system changes. The standard user, must right click and give an adminsitrator password to make such changes

Exactly!!! The more reason there should be no discrepancy in vid/pics playback between the two accounts.

That means the tweakings I am allowed using the Standard account without right clicking for Administration permission, are non-core and only affects the Standard account. Those are the ones I have to find out. What did I do before Dec. 16th 2010(when I first realized there was a problem)? It must have been before the last Restore point that was kicked out to make room for new ones(because available Sytem Restores on the 16th did not solve the problem).

In not thinking why it does not work with one type of account and does with another. Im thinking along the lines why does it not work in any new account.

Maybe so, I had a similar problem a while back, never did figure out why.

After a fresh install the problem was gone. :huh:

Hope you figure it out, I'm curious about it myself.

I've not given up on Richc..... and I'll keep on praying.

PS.,..Derek, clean install is just too drastic for such a glitch....I'll live with it for a while until Richc comes up with something.

BTW...could it be an inadverdently deleted dll?
