1066Mhz vs 800Mhz memory ram.

Even though the 6400 (800MHz) has lower timings, it’s slower than the PC8500 (1066MHz). Being that the PC8500 is running at a higher clock speed, the higher timings are comparable to the 6400’s lower timings because of the 1066MHz speed of the PC8500.

Look at the image/video encoding and gaming performance - there's next to no difference between them.

I believe that was the point I was trying to make all along. ;)

I know, I was meaning that to upgrade from good 800MHz to memory, to 1066MHz, the difference is next to none :)

... but the lowest you'll be seeing RAM at when buying it is CL7. The higher the frequency, the looser the timings become e.g. they get higher.

Unless he goes for the Corsair, as posted earlier :)

I'd rather spend less and get CL4 than spend more for CL5 for a small difference :p

OK, barring fact that the motherboard in question supports 1200MHz RAM PC 9600) lets stick to the 1066 vs 800 for the moment.

Now, let me get this right, his motherboard supports 1066MHz RAM, which as we've seen provides near or faster performance compared to the 800MHz RAM, but he should bottleneck his CPU for cheaper less efficient RAM? Especially since the price difference is 10 percent or less between the two?

Sorry, that's a step backwards. Period.

Now, with regards to memory, I'd get the PC 9600 (1200MHz), if price is a factor, I'd go no lower then 1066. Otherwise what's the purpose of getting that motherboard?

as i've shown this is hardly concrete.....

i can assure you there is 0 CPU bottleneck @ 800mhz compared to 1066mhz :sarc:

Sorry, that's a step backwards. Period.
no...... its a more practical, cheaper solution to comparable performance

lets not forget the fact that ''good'' 800 sticks will run 1066 all day long anyway, & if your lucky @ stock timings too...

so STILL the pc6400s are the better buy.....;)

Like Skunk said, there won't be a bottleneck from 800MHz RAM until he pushes the FSB above 400MHz and leaves the RAM alone - Atleast that's my understanding of it, I could be wrong.

But then saying that, any CPU is bottlenecked even from 1066MHz RAM. Even the best Core 2 Quad with an 8x multiplier is still at 400MHz, and with that being a 1:1 with 800MHz RAM, your saying 1066MHz would bottleneck that.

Again, we'll agree to disagree agreeably. ;)

Peace.
