Bootmgr is missing... Big problem

Hello,

I had been having minor graphic card problems so I went on to do a system restore, or something along those lines, to restore to factory settings. However, I made the very stupid mistake of shutting offy computer when it was at 1 percent.

I went on to turn my computer back on and receive a bootmgr is missing. I didymium research and downloaded the vista recovery cd.... And that's when Ibecame desperate.

I put in the disk, and clicked on the repair computer. It could not find an operating system. I am getting really clueless and fustrating so any help is seriously appreciated.

Btw, I'm okay with computers but please explain it slowly and clearly because when it comes to things like this, I will not get it much.

Thanks,
Peter

You have the CD that is surprising but good news. If it is an installation CD, boot from the CD (you must set bios to boot from CD) then follow tutorial.
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/205005-boot-priority-change.html

I have already set it to boot from the Cd. I get the vista recovery cd booted and click on "repair my computer" however, once there, it cannot detect an operating system as I may have deleted it when canceling out a system restore.

Have you tried pressing f8 before Windows starts to load and doing a system restore from there.

We can save your stuff then reinstall, IF THAT IS REALLY AN INSTALL DVD

It is a recovery cd I downloaded and burned online from another computer. I put it in, boot from cd... Then I get a screen to install Vista. However, at the bottom there is a thing that says "repair your computer" I click on that. From what I have read online Vista should show up, you click that and follow the install steps and boom your comp is fixed.

BUT, for me, vista does not show up on the screen as I believe I accidentally uninstalled it. I have an option to load it or something and it gives me all these files but I don't know what to click or if it is even there.

Hope that clarifies the situation a bit better.

There is one last thing to try, but do you want to save your stuff first?

If it fails then
This is what you must do then
Call your computer company, if you bought the computer with Vista installed, buy a install DVD, for cost, about $25.00
If you installed yourself, call Microsoft, for the same deal.
Save your stuff and then install
If it were me, Id go with Seven for about $135.00, if the computer could handle it.
We can try to save your stuff first.

I have the CD and do not mind loosing my files as everything can be reinstalled.

Only thing is, it asks for a vista serial code... Where could I find this...

Was Vista installed when you bought the computer?
If yes
the number is on the computer
25 digits, in groups of 5. The letters OEM are problably there somewhere, too.

Thats ok, I was trying to make sure it was actually an install DVD and not a repair.
What is the make and model of your computer?

I am going save that page as those seem like really great and helpful instructions. However, I am still running into problems. I believe that I am completely missing vista and after the screen (that gives me two options, bios menu and boot menu) I press f8 repeadtly like the instructions say but I just get the "Bootmgr is missing"

I could get a similar screen to the instructions if I boot from the recovery/install DVD

My Computer

If you boot from the DVD, you should not get that message. Everything that is needed is on the DVD
