You might be onto something here. I was logged in with the John Prince profile but it was the Adminstrator file that would not allow me to delete it? The John Prince profile that I was logged onto and which is highlighted first when going to User Profiles would???

I should mention that how this all started is I created a new profile (John Prince) and deleted the old one (User) from within explorer insteas of from the command prompt or through the registry. Finding out I made a mistake here I then went into the registry and renamed the User profile to John Prince, did the renaming of the .bak file with my other John Prince file (not the User one that I renamed John Prince). I'm thinking along the line here I screwed things up.

That could very well be the case. You should do all account management from account management instead of the registry or renaming folders. My recommendation still stands.

Townsbg- you're correct. I wanted him to do a system restore, not a reinstallation of Vista, which can be done from Safe Mode. This was purely to get the account back that he deleted.

If he wanted to reinstall Vista, he could get one of those ISO's that there's a thread on. I didn't look for it. If he has a Dell or HP system, he can probably get the installation discs from them.

It's a good idea but it sounds like he really screwed things up which I think could lead to instability later. It's worth a shot though.

Just a heads up to everyone here that I did as suggested and did a system restore. Thank you all so much for your help. Very much appreciated! Everything is *finally* back to normal... except one thing, I still need to resolve an error message I get when logging on with my built-in administrator account: "Your user profile was not loaded correctly. You have been logged on with the default profile for the system." I also get this message whenever I create any new administrator profile? Anyone got the magic bullet for this one???
