Sorry - no - but it's been chaotic around here this past week or so.
I'll get back to you later.
Promise!

There seem to be some problems with performance counters - let's rebuild the settings from the store....

  1. Click Start, expand All Programs, and expand Accessories.
  2. Right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
  3. At the command prompt, type lodctr /r, and then press ENTER.

    Wait 5 minutes, and reboot.

Kaspersky seems to be leaking in the registry for some reason ( as is Windows Live - but that does it on every system!)
the MSIInstaller service seemed to be having a major conniption fit over WordPerfect on 27th

The DHCP Client seems to be having some major problems - this could be related to a problem with the Task Scheduler service, which is possibly failing to start.

Please run the following commands from an Elevated Command prompt, and post the results.

NET START SCHEDULE
SC QC SCHEDULE
SC QUERYEX SCHEDULE
SC QPRIVS SCHEDULE
SC SDSHOW SCHEDULE

I think you missed what I posted previously about WordPerfect. There are tons of entries on 1/27 from the MSInstaller because I was re-installing WordPerfect. There have been no errors since.

The DHCP-Client throws warnings every day that I work from home using a closed VPN. The VPN I use for work shuts me out of my own network and only allows me to use their network. Most of the DHCP-Client errors are between 8am and 5pm on the days I work from home. Last month it was Thursdays and Fridays, and this month it's Mondays and Tuesdays. That being said, there are still the occasional warnings that are unrelated to work.

Knowing the above, do you still have the same concerns? Should I still run these commands or do you want me to run different commands. At the time I'm writing this, I am unable to perform what you asked since I'm working (and getting Dhcp-Client warnings). I will do them later if still want me to do them.

I just looked at the logs and see that occasionally, even though I am remoted into my work computer, the DHCP request is successful. When I'm not logged into work, the DHCP-Client checks every 30 minutes and present an Information entry.

I think the Task Scheduler may still be causing problems - which may be unrelated to the other ones (and you're right, I did miss your WP data!)
Yes, please, do run the commands, and we'll see if they make any difference.

I was looking at my router settings and noticed that the DHCP lease time is set for 3600 seconds yet DHCP is checking for a new IP every 30 minutes. I am using cable internet. I only have 2 desktops, a blu-ray, and a wii connected to my network. Do you think we should also adjust the lease time on my computer to cut down on these Dhcp-Client errors?

Good question! - Dunno the answer to that one, but I tend to leave Windows settings alone as much as possible. It certainly shouldn't hurt to update the lease more often than is required.

Actually, I was thinking of less often. If the lease is currently every hour, then it's checking every half hour and generating an information log entry unless I'm vpn'd into work. Most things I read say to set it to a number of days. I just checked IPCONFIG /ALL and it appears mine expires roughly two days after obtaining it.

Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Sunday, February 10, 2013 5:51:52 PM
Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Tuesday, February 12, 2013 3:20:18 PM

I don't know how that translates into 30 minutes. However, that 30 minutes corresponds to the hour set up on the router.

The server determines the lifetime of the lease - the client interprets it however it likes, and renews it whenever it can, so that it never actually expires (in theory, assuming a permanent connection).

I've run the commands listed in the order listed. I attempted to attach the file with the results, but even a 3k text file will not show as being attached. When I came back into this post to edit it, the file was still there. I'm copying the text here:

Code:

All the output from that looks fine to me - have you noticed any changes in system response since rebuilding the counters?

See what happens in a couple of days, and post the new event logs.

This is a link to my shared folder. The file with the most current logs is "2-23 Event Logs.zip".

I'm giving you the link since I don't expect the attachment to appear. I already know I can't upload .evtx files.

ADDENDUM: Again, the file is attached but is not visible unless I'm editing the post. Can anyone else see it?

ADDENDUM 2: Firefox crashed today so you will see some errors from 2/23 for Firefox. Again, for the last three weeks, I remote into my computer at work and that generates DHCP-Client errors the entire time.

Is any of this preventing me from working on my backups? Can these problems be worked out after I learn how to image my computers and start backups?

Since the 18th, the only errors in the application log refer to the Search function, with errors such as
Code:
The entry <C:\USERS\ANDY\APPDATA\LOCAL\MOZILLA\FIREFOX\PROFILES\T0J6A718.DEFAULT\SAFEBROWSING-TO_DELETE> in the hash map cannot be updated.

Context: Application, SystemIndex Catalog

Details:

A device attached to the system is not functioning. (0x8007001f)
All relate to FireFox - which crashed previously, so may have corrupted something there.

In the System log, the DHCP errors seem to have stopped on the 19th?

The Search errors of the application log are preceded (by more than an hour) by other errors in the System log -
DCOM got error "1053" attempting to start the service WSearch with arguments "" in order to run the server: {7D096C5F-AC08-4F1F-BEB7-5C22C517CE39}
A timeout was reached (120000 milliseconds) while waiting for the Windows Search service to connect.
The Windows Search service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

I doubt that these errors are related, because of the time-lag.

Possibly one way to fix the System error would be to reset the Indexing - one way to resolve the Application errors would be to use FF to clear the relevant logs (and then check they are clear)

In regards to the attachments not showing- While in edit mode, click on the paper clip and then your attachment. Submit your reply. I don't like the way it's inserting attachments but have no control over it.

Please read NoelDP's last post.

Isn't that what you had me do a few posts ago? You said we reset the counters. Aren't they the same thing?

I don't understand what you mean about clearing the relevant logs. Firefox logs? How?

Wither 3, I had filled in the contact form for the forum with this problem and they had just responded back with a thread on how to properly attach a file. Apparently, one can manage file attachments without actually attaching them. That is strange behavior. I haven't been doing it properly. I guess that means I can delete those 30+ attachments. I know where you can get to all attachments for a thread, but that doesn't identify which attachment goes with which post. I should just can them and start doing it properly. Do you concur?

When you select Edit, Manage Attachments is near the bottom of the screen. You should be able to click on that and see your attachments and then delete one. Normally, the board places the attachments at the bottom of the screen but I found the other day that it was putting an attachment at the top and wrapping the text. I could drag it around the screen but never got it to place after the text.

Two problems with that. I went to manage attachments and there is only one there. I attached the same file twice. When I go into edit mode, the links are not there at all. I can't see one to drag it around screen.

I managed to hit END and backspaced to try to delete the files. This is what I saw in the preview before saving the post:

This is what I saw after saving it:

You can see that the attachment disappears even though it said "attached files".

I don't know what the instructions you got were for attaching files. The other day I just clicked on the paper clip and the browse feature showed up, as usual. I browsed to and selected my file. Then I clicked on upload and it said the upload was successful by showing current attachments with a checkmark. However, when I submitted the reply, the attached file didn't show up and I had to do what I mentioned to you. That's not normal.

I'm trying this again and will see if it works as it should. Nope. I had to select the paper clip again. Houston, I think we have a problem.View attachment 27701
