Solved Computer can't tell time anymore

Are there problems with dual boot when both drives are windows? Or do you think it's the Linux/windows combo that is the issue?

Hey there Rich, I just checked out Oracle Virtual box. I never heard of it before. Pretty cool. I'm going to try it out. Would it allow me to run on a Linux machine, software that otherwise would not work in Linux? I'm thinking of Sonar, a DAW I use for music creation. I'm thinking probably not.

No, it will run most Linux progs, nothing else though.

I'm using Nist B. Right now it's correct as it updated recently. I'm on my Linux drive. I want to see if when I go back to Vista (on a differetn drive), will that cause the problem? If so, it may mean problem is rela6ted to having a dual-boot computer.

Thanks. I still am not getting just exactly what the purpose of OVB is. Just something to play around with, or does it really have utilitarian value? One thought that occurred to me: I saw on their site that they use improved graphics drivers, which made me think about one of my oother problems, Display Driver Failures. I thought, what if run windows within Linux, would those improved graphics drivers solve that problem? (I realize I'm drifting here. feel free to move this to the Graphics forum).

Aha! I just rebooted into Vista from the Linux drive, And now the vista drive has the time off by 4 hours again! It was fine for the past two days. During that time, I did not use the Linux drive, so this must be the root of the problem. I saw something about both OS's needing to use the same time server, but I'm not sure how to change that setting in Linux. I tried but couldn't get to any screen to even do that. I'll need to do some research on this, but perhaps we're on to something here.

Just wanted to update and close this. The problem was caused by having Linux on another drive. As soon as I uninstalled it, my computer remembered how to tell time. I'm so excited, I'm going to ask Jethro Bodine to teach it to cipher!

Great. Personally I wouldn't do a dual boot windows and Linux for reasons such as that. If you still want to use it both knoppix and ubuntu have bootable media that doesn't have to be installed on the hard drive.
