How to exec .dat at boot

Hello,

I can't give you a fixed date because translation to French/German not started yet.

By the end of this week, both Traditional and Simplied Chinese.
There is never any rush. In your own time.

Make it look nice << Now
Fix bug where half of title will be removed on December 31st. << Fixed
Make sure those extra files do not appear << I think fixed, can you confirm?
Wonderful
Sorry, I confused you. When I said "Now", I meant that I am doing it now, but it is not finished.

Please advise how to test the files on Vista. On which folder shall I save them? Thanks
You can test them from any folder, Desktop, Downloads, Documents etc. You originally talked about three strange files with the extensions: .reloc, .rsrc, .text. I do not know exactly what these files are, but it is now compiled in Release mode, so they should not reappear. Test in the same way as you originally found these files.

All files exchanged are dated.
Sensible

Code:
linbread_20100404_r.dat
Verse_of_the_Day_20100404_r.exe
They indicate the file sent from you to me on Apr 04, 2010
Just one quick question, do you want month or day first? I can do either, and it is not very clear with 04/04 !? ;) I assume month first because you said Apr/04.

Code:
linbread_zh.dat (traditional Chinese)
linbread_cn.dat (simplified Chinese)
linbread_fr.dat (French)
linbread_de.dat (German)
etc
Code:
Verse_of_the_Day_zh.exe
Verse_of_the_Day_cn.exe
Verse_of_the_Day_fr.exe
Verse_of_the_Day_de.exe
date and name to be added after country.
With the .dat files, I strongly agree. However, I though that there would be one .exe with all the languages in it. How would you like it done, multiple .exes or one .exe?

If you would like, we could start a Sourceforge project, though I am very happy to keep working here. It is entirely your decision.

I think it is better retaining yyyymmdd, say 20100404.

Ah, sorry. One .exe for all languages. Should we add date to it if there is any change.

Good suggestion, avoiding disturbing other posters. I have some other ideas regarding church management. Verse of today is a small project only. Please let me know after the Sourceforge project started. Thanks.

Hello,

There are 2 files, a .dat and an .exe file. I'm not very clear where shall I keep them? In the same folder. Therefore the .exe file will be evoked when Vista starts resulting in the verse displayed on the screen after login.

When it is finished, I will put it in the Program Files folder, with registry data added so that it appears in Add/Remove Programs. But while we are testing it, it can go anywhere. The .exe and .dat file *MUST* be in the same folder together.

Ah, sorry. One .exe for all languages. Should we add date to it if there is any change.
That is your choice, though I would say that in the final version there should be no date, but in the testing versions there should be so that we do not get confused.

It will not disturb other posters, and is only if you want it on Sourceforge with its version and bug tracking. This is your choice. You will need you to sign up with a SourceForge account, and tell me your username so I can make you a project Admin.

Hi Richard,

Agree. The final version should have "no date". Only in the testing period we add "date" avoiding confusion. Because there are so many version/correction.

I'll come back on "SourceForge project" later.

Have tested your latest files on Vista. The verse is displayed nicely. Thanks for your hard work. I changed the date of computing testing it.

Can we add a small picture on top of the verse. Please see attached file;
Code:
    Bible (picture)
Bible Verse of The Day
If the .gif format is not suitable please advise me the format. I'll change it here. Thanks

Hello,

.gif format is fine. Will add this picture. How exactly do you want this arranged.

---------------------------------------------

Picture in middle at top.

Quote underneath, aligned left

Title underneath that, aligned right

Do you want anything in Italic etc.?

Do you want a language drop down, or a "Change Language" button which opens a new window to change the language. We can try both if you cannot easily imagine this.

Yes, source of the verse, e.g.
Code:

Hi,

Rename it from "Release.zip" to "Release.zipabc" before attaching and tell your friend to change it back to "Release.zip". .zip is an unsafe attachment, and so will be blocked, but .zipabc or whatever is not, and so is not blocked. Development is going well. I am redoing the GUI now, after refactoring the code earlier.

Hi,

Thanks for your advice and info on the development concerned.

I'm now planning for the sound file. Which format you'll suggest? .wav/mp3/pcm etc.? mp3 is a lossy compressed format. The finished sound file will be sizable. I'll start English reading first.

You can use almost any compiler that supports C#. This is not an advanced program, and so the free compilers will work. You can either download a free IDE or use the free command line compiler that comes with Windows (csc.exe) This gets really fiddly, and so unless big downloads are a problem, use an IDE. Once you have chosen an IDE, I will send you the files in a format that your chosen IDE can open. I do not know how to compile on Linux/Unix.

Hi,

I'll take care of Linux/Unix environment. BSD is quite similar to Unix. You just follow Windows environment please.

There are huge programming resources on the internet. The first two look very good. You may need a little more experience to fully understand the sorting algorithms in section 7 of the first one, but that will come! :) Also, if there is anything in particular, you can always google it and come out with pages of results and an answer to your question. However, I think the last tutorial has a slightly different purpose. C++ and Java are quite similar to C#, and that tutorial does not explain everything from the ground up, it moves at a very fast pace, and only properly explains the changes. I would only use the last one if you already know Java or C++ to that level.

Most of them are using Visual Studio, and remember, the coding rules for different compilers (even for the same language) are slightly different. Therefore, if you get code for Visual Studio and try to build it on an open source IDE and compiler, it probably will not work. Usually, the change required is very small, but for someone new to the language, it can be very daunting! ;)

Hi Richard,

Is CSharp_Express_2008,

Download and Install C# Express 2008 at C# Online.NET (CSharp-Online.NET)

the latest version?

I am prepared to run it on Ubuntu Linux. Because all Windows here are running on VM (the guest) of Sun VirtualBox, not so convinient to me, running 2 OS desktops on the same screen. Unfortunately none of the visual studio or basic products will work on "wine", the Emulator. Therefore I will use "mono"

Main Page - Mono

Mono will compile C# natively to linux, making it running there. I just found it.

Ah sorry, I'm waiting for your reply to my posting on #29 re sound file. Thanks.

Hi Richard,

Any progress?

The two files;
linbread.dat
Verse_of_the_Day.exe

work seamlessly here.

I managed making the "Verse of The Day" starts after login

Step:
Code:
Right_click Start -> Explore

Local Disk:(C) -> User -> satimis -> AppData -> Roaming -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Start Menu -> Program -> Startup

"Right-click .exe Icon on desktop + [Ctrl]" moving it to "Startup" -> Create Shortcuts Here

Close the window
Log off

Relogin -> a window popup -> clicking Run to display "Verse of The Day"
Is there anyway without clicking "Run" it will start the verse automatically?

Edit:

Problem solved as well

"Run"- Open File - Scurity Warning

Just un-check it. It won't popup again

Hi Richard,

Thanks I'll try it here.

I have another consideration on sound, reading the verse. It'll take lengthy time to complete recording all verses. I'll send you a sound file for testing first making it as background music. In this arrangement we can also test the format for the sound clip, wav/mp3/pcm/? What will be your comment. Thanks

My Computer

Hi Richard,

Result of Testing:-
===========

It popup the old window "Bibble Verse of the Day" first. clicking [OK] popup the new window "Bible Verse of the Day", closing it simultaneously.

The verse on the new window is correct dated (0408). But the source "Matthew 5:43" is wrong. The verse should come from (Psalms 63:1). "Matthew 5:43" is on (1230).

The new window is very nice. You have done a good work. Thanks

However the font size of the verse needs to increase.

I have following suggestion;

1)
add;
Code:
Thanks be to God
above the button [Close]

2)
Change;
[Close] to [Amen]

3)
Heading "Bible Verse of the Day" to be BOLD

4)
Move the source (e.g. Matthew 5:42) just below the verse to the right

5)
Add "Language" (Bold) above the "drop list"

I think color is not important.

I'll send you a music file in mp3 format. It is a short tune "Thank be to God" played in piano. If possible when the window popup the tune starts to play. Clicking "Amen" closes the window and stops the tune simultaneously.

Thanks again for your hard work

Hello,

Taken suggestions on board and will implement them today and tomorrow (today *SHOULD* be enough, but just in case) I know that release was full of bugs, and the first Window should not have appeared, the language selector will auto start with current language, and the text should have been black not grey.

Hi,

Sorry about replying late to this question, only just saw it! I know nothing about sound really, and have just been reading Wikipedia on these three types. You know quite a lot more on this than me, so you should decide, but it seems to me that it is size of file vs. quality? I don't know how much quality MP3 loses, so I will have to leave this down to you. Sorry.
