Solved If I Get A BSOD On Every Boot - How Can I Follow Your BSOD Protocol?

Turning Windows reature on or off - unchecked Windows PowerShell and Windows PowerShell Integrated Scripting Environment. This can't be good - Please wait while the features are configured. This may take several minutes. It's been about 10 minutes so far...

Hi again.

Keep going as this appears to be correct for your situation?

For your information.

I have just started to update a laptop that has been fresh installed with Windows Vista Basic. This system needed to be validated before I could get it to update. It is now doing 116 updates from SP1.

Please go to here & check your status. Then phone the activation line, if needed. This should then give you access to all of the updates?

Uhhh.... it's been well over an hour, now. Simply trying to get rid of WPS & WPSISE Hasn't BSODed, hasn't frozen, but hasn't completed either, it would seem. Will cancel.

Canceled, and the checkmarks remain on Windows PowerShell & it's friend...

OK,

If you're doing that, what's your plan now?

You misunderstand the dynamic as I see it - I'm actually looking to this forum for guidance. I've been told that my problem lies in a bad driver - raspptp.sys, (page 3 of this thread), and I'm simply looking for a fix for this problem that doesn't involve a complete reformat and reinstall.

My Computer

The problem is that the driver mentioned is a signed Microsoft Driver. It is not that easy to update or change.
You may have to reinstall, unless someone stumbles on another solution.
If you had a reinstall DVD, the same SP as you have now, you may be able to do a repair install and you would not lose your stuff and it is not a reinstall.

Well, richc46, this was where we left off the other day... The Dell installation CD I have is SP1, the exact service pack as resides on my tower. As I previously posted, I was able to initiate the repair intall from within Windows, but it gave me the msg that I had to first uninstall Windows PowerShell. See post #40 and beyond for additional developments in this it-ain't-ever-gonna-workout saga.

Try this

Click on Control Panel in Start menu then
Go to Uninstall a program” in Control Panel then
Click on View installed updates in “Programs and Features then
Right click on Update which reads Powershell and uninstall it. That may work

Seems like a good call, but, although I have oodles of updates for PowerPoint, I have nada for PowerShell, and believed me, I looked carefully.

I know you will not like this, but if it were me I would reinstall. It happens. You will waste more time trying to find an alternative. There is no right or wrong for everyone, but I would reinstall.

richc46, I thank you for your help. Unfortunately I cannot add rep because you must have helped me in the past, and I get a msg that I must spread it around before I can give you any more 'thumbs up'. Seems to be a system that discourages repeat assistance, and I hardly see how that is of any benefit to those of us looking for help.

This is not my PC that's had the problems - it belongs to a relative, and they're tickled that I've simply managed to cut the BSODs down to what they consider a manageable level. Of course, it's only going to get worse... and a peek inside the tower showed several bulging capacitors, a problem that a reinstall won't help.
