If you allocate 12GiB space for your system restore as suggested by Dwarf, you will have restore points for more than 3 days.

I watched as this topic has gone from how much space should be used to deleting restore points. I think that it is very unwise to delete the points for a few GB of space. Maybe not today, or tomorrow, but one day you will come back to the Forum with a problem that is difficult to resolve because of the fact that SR was not used. Trust me, one day you will be very happy that you have System Restore.

Turn the system restore on:
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66971-system-restore.html

If space on the HardDrive becomes a problem, buy an external hard drive. You can keep your games, programs etc on that drive.

Everyone is different, but I have helped so many that had a problem because they did not use system restore. You may even want to make an image of your entire hard drive and store it in a safe place, just in case,

A drive marketed as 250GB actually has a capacity of 232GiB. This is because they are sold with their decimal capacity rather than their binary capacity.

So let's start with 232GiB. Vista itself will take up 15GiB, leaving 217GiB. By default, a paging (or swap) file and a hibernation file are automatically created, the size of each of those is equivalent to the amount of memory in your system. You haven't stated the amount of memory you have, so I am going to say 2GiB. This takes the total down to 213GiB. A full installation of Works 2006 is 3GiB. Total now 210GiB. By default, System Restore occupies 10% of your HDD capacity, so this accounts for 23GiB. The new total is now 187GiB. System drivers that are not built-in to Vista can account for another 1GiB. This leaves a total of 186GiB.

If you don't use hibernation, you can turn off that feature, saving 2GiB. New total now 188GiB.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/165508-hibernation-enable-disable.html

You can also reduce the amount of space allocated to System Restore, or even turn it off altogether. Potential saving: upto 23 GiB. If you disable System Restore, your new total will be 211GiB. I recommend that you allocate 5% to this (12GiB). With this allocation, your new total will be 199GiB.

ok now i know how to do it .
but it is in [mb ]not gb .
so i like to leave about 5 gb of space so what that be in mb .
5000 ???mb

so if i put [5120] mb that will gave me 5 gb right .
is that snuff for my restore point
