Solved new here and need some help

If you want to view the log open the cmd prompt box again and cut and paste this command into it.

notepad C:\windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log

This may give you some idea about what is getting corrupted.

You should have received both service packs and about 120 updates if your .ISO was the real deal.

Did you activate it and does it show as activated in Control panel,System.
If when you run the ABR program it fails, open the .txt file it has made and cut and paste the code from there into the correct place.
It should also say Service pack 2 in the top section.

You could also go to windows update and see if it will receive them alright.

If your copy of Windows is Genuine it should also say that at the bottom of the System page to the right of the Activated section.

If it will do all that it should pass Windows Genuine Advantage Test.

Sounds OK so far after those updates there will likely be more.
After SP2 has been installed you can open another cmd prompt and cut and paste this command into it.

compcln.exe

Then Y to confirm
This will clean up unneeded files left behind after the install process.
NOTE after SP2 is installed.

Oh, and it is the updates that take all the time so just bear with it.

I would have to have a look at a DEll Inspiron 1525 to see as I have always used Toshiba (with no problems except for user abuse)

Yes, Download Microsoft Security Essentials and use it as your anti-virus it has very little strain on your system and is thought to be the best free Anti-virus at the moment.
Also download the free version of MalwareBytes-Anti Malware it is also considered the best malware detector.
MSSE should run all the time, Malwarebytes as you need it (quick scan every couple of days)
If you just want to check your system files without fixing any run the cmd prompt with this command
sfc /verifyonly

To fix any found it's still
sfc /scannow.

After giving it some more thought I would also do as many driver updates as I could.
Don't use the check for updates button in Device Manager go to the manufacturers site for each device.
The free download Speccy can help you to find who made your devices.
Speccy is made by the same people that make Defraggler and CCleaner.
If you want to use a cleaner CCleaner is not bad.

If you use the Defraggler turn off the scheduled task for the windows defrag in task manager as they will have different ideas on what is defragged.

Run the cleaner then do a defrag.

Piriform - Download CCleaner, Defraggler, Recuva, Speccy - Millions of users worldwide!
