I did a search, and it doesn't say what PSU it has on the HP website, but I had a look around and I think it might have a 300 watt PSU. I'm not sure if that will run a new CPU like a Phenom, and 300 watt is a bit low nowadays anyway. I don't know the size of your case either, so if you do end up getting a new power supply, too, you'll have to be careful and get one that can fit your case.

But I'm going to go to bed now as its getting late for me.

more than likely it's a 250w or a 300w PSU.. as you don't need much in that system. Also your running a AMD Motherboard. you cannot use a Intel Chip, Only AMD with that.. your best bet is to maybe try and get a faster x2 chip

Get the AMD Athalon x2 5600+ or a 6000+ as that will be faster than what you have now.

also the geforce 6150 LE SE.. whatever, that is a built-in onboard graphics solution. it can not be overclocked. I had a HP computer before what I have now, and I added a simple graphics card to it and more RAM to help out. It worked ok. I'd say maybe you should snag a Nvidia 8600GTS, or even a 4670
Newegg.com - MSI R4670-2D512 Radeon HD 4670 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

the 8600GTS is a great card, but the 4670 has less power consumption and your HP's power supply should be able to power it.

I'd do that.. or sell the HP and upgrade to a Intel system, Intel's Core 2 Duo's beat AMD's Tricore's all day.

I had a HP, I sold it and built my own. and now It's an addiction/hobby

I wouldn't get an 8600GTS. The lowest card I recommend to people is a 9600GT. Getting a graphic card would be a good choice, but a PSU upgrade would be needed too, then you can install CUDA Nvidia drivers, which will help with your video/image rendering as much as getting a quad core would.

The first and last one you posted are the same except the SLI and the ram on the first one. Then the detailed specs the clock speeds are different. I'm not really sure what is better. As long as the stock fan can keep it cool then it would be ok. Have to wait for an overclocker expert to answer that.

This probably isn't that answer you are looking for but...

You should go to a proper computer deal (I can't recommend any because I have no idea where you live) and buy a fully built system to meet you needs.

From what I have read you aren't entirely OC ready nor DIY upgrade ready so going for a shop built PC will save a lot of time and possibly wasted money from buying incorrect parts or destroying parts from heat.

Note: Get an Intel CPU, AMD just can't keep up.

Be very specific about you needs. If you want raw video processing power go for a quad core, a graphics card with CUDA support will only help if the application you are using supports CUDA.

Don't try to buy the best parts because you WILL just get ripped off but in saying that don't settle for crap. Tell the whomever you buy this PC off that you want it either pre-overclocked or overclock ready ie make sure it has an aftermarket hsf (heatsink and fan) for the CPU.

Make sure they are quality parts but also make sure you don't get swept up and buy $8000 worth of computer.

Post back with the parts you have been offered so we can guide you...

I bought my computer for under $2k AUD and it burns through video encoding.

If you want brute speed then a Core i7 CPU is a must! There are 3 types but the cheapest (remember you can overclock) is the 920.

This is just an example of what you could get and how much it *MAY* cost (all costs in AUD)

HDD - Western Digital 750G SATAII HDD $126
CPU - Intel Core i7 920 Processor 2.66GHz $469
HSF - Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme 1366 RT CPU Cooler $109
PSU - CoolerMaster 650W Extreme $100
GPU - Zotac GeForce 9800GT (Assuming your not a huge GTA IV fan) $204
Mobo - Gigabyte GA-EX58-DS4 $340
RAM - Corsair TR3X3G1333C9 3GB (3 x XMS3 1GB) $166
Case - Antec Three Hundred Tower $100
Screen - Benq E2200HD 21.5" Full High Definition Widescreen LCD Glossy Black $240

Total - $1854 AUD. This is a pretty decent system, especially since it is under $2000!

Consider this to be a guide but not a definite choice because you will probably have better parts available, where you are, for less money so shop around.
