You don't need 8GB RAM unless you are a professional photo editor in which case you need more 16GB RAM, server board and 2 Xeon CPUs.

Core i7 CPUs are quad core, capable of 8 processing threads. The one I put in my list is 2.66GHz, the one you found is probably from the Core 2 Quad series thus slower regardless of the clocked speed.

A CPU from the Core 2 series, no matter how highly clocked, is and will perform slower than a Core i7 CPU. The Core i7 is completely redesigned, making FSBs obsolete and allowing for MUCH higher RAM bandwidth and clocks, 11GB\s compared to 32GB\s.

Core i7's will overclock better because they are 45nm whereas the Core 2 Quads are normally 65nm, some are 45nm but even then they are slower and less overclock able than the Core i7 series.

EDIT: NOTE - Try to edit previous posts instead of making 3-4 one-line posts in a row. Makes the thread cleaner.

Re: overclocking my pc help....N00b

Go for the New Palit GeForce 9500GT 1GB PCI Express Video Card - eBay (item 120373456945 end time Feb-10-09 20:40:34 PST).

It is a good price.

It 'should' go nicely with your motherboard, assuming you found the right description. You could always open your case and look to see if you have one. They look like this http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/cooldrives/sata-pci-express-pci-card.jpg or look at the green slots http://www.techpowerup.com/img/07-12-17/780i_right.jpg.

If you still aren't sure just go to PCI Express 16x - Google Image Search.

As I tell everyone. STAY AWAY FROM ANYTHING under the x600 series cards(9600, 8600, etc) They use DDR2 memory instead of DDR3(And yes, 1GB of GDDR2 memory is SLOWER than 256 or 512mb of GDDR3 memory).

The 8500/9500 and under are poor poor excuses for video cards.

My Computer

I wouldn't go below the 9 series.

OK.

Grpahics memory and system memory have no correlation.

What is the highest resolution your are going to play games at 1280x1024 or 1440x900?

What games are you planning on playing? Crysis/Warhead, FC2, GTA IV, Mirrors Edge (very nice game!), etc?

calhounhusker can you please remove your system specs from your sig. The 'My System Specs' is the place to put that information NOT your sig. It junks everybody's screens up and annoys people (like me).

If you are unsure how to change the 'My System Specs' please PM me, a mod or click here

and click on 'My System Specs'.

kiddieboy12 I'm going to be blunt here, from what I have read in this thread (yes, I just read then entire thread, including all of your annoying double, triple, and quad posts bugging for a "quicker answer") you do not know enough about computers to even consider overclocking. Overclocking is one of the most advanced modifications that you can make to your PC, and if you do it wrong you can RUIN your ENTIRE computer system. It also seems that you do not know enough about computers to install a new graphics card without messing up your drivers or system stability.

As it was stated before in this thread, your best bet is to simply go out to a local store that sells computers and buy a computer that is assembled and ready to go. If you're willing to spend the money and you would like a good gaming system, you could visit Alienware and configure a computer there. They will build it with the parts you select and then ship it to you. From there you could start by configuring that system, since Alienware computers generally come with the ability to overclock with a program, and you don't have to modify any BIOS settings. Until you gain some experience building computers and configuring them, I DO NOT recommend attempting to build one and overclock it.

If you want a fairly cheap graphics card upgrade still, I recommend an Nvidia based 9800 GT card. It doesn't sound like you need the 1GB memory version, so I'd recommend the 512MB version.
