Had the same problem in 32 bit

hey man can you post the solution to your problem please :) I have the exact same problem with freezing randomly during games.

Vista Ultimate x64
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU @6600 @ 2.4ghz
8.00 GB RAM
2x Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS 512
Creative SB X-fi
Asus P5N-T Deluxe

Nothing is overclocked and I'm using rivatuner to run fanspeed at 100% on the video cards.

Well i said EVGA + nvidia 680i sli so by addition its a EVGA nvidia 680i SLI motherboard.

ok I tested and I've had no problems since. The problem was that the mobo's FSB that I had was 1066 Mhz and my processor was supposed to be at 1333 Mhz in order to get the full 2.66 Ghz. I though about that when I ordered the processor and knew that the reason why it was only clocked at 2.16 GHz. I never thought that it would do this. I was planning on overclocking it to get it to 2.66 or above, but I didn't want to touch the frequencies until I figured out what the problem was. What led me to belive that it was the problem was when I did stress test on the ram, I had a harware failure after a few secs and the cpu usage was at 0% when it should've been at least at 50%. This happened only twice, and when I only had 2 sticks of ram in dual channel. I took pics of the test failure and it came to me when I was looking at them a few days later. Bump the FSB up to 1333, ran the tests and Bam, no problems since.

ok.. i think i found my problem...
I have had XP run fine for ages.. right? well.. here goes.
XP doesnt support AMD Cool 'N Quiet by default.. you need to install CPU drivers to use it (it works like Intel SpeedStep)
Vista has support out of the box.
I installed the drivers in XP, and what happens? XP freezes randomly. I disable Cool 'N Quiet in BIOS - Everything works fine... INCLUDING..... Vista!!!!
so far not been able to make it hang (touch wood) so what seems to be the problem, is the processor speed fluctuating constantly.

That's weird. I've recently built a computer for my girl friend with an amd and xp. I don't think I installed the drivers for cool and quiet but I don't quiet remember. i know it's on in the bios so maybe I did but she's had no hang up that I know of. Have you updated your bios for your board?

Yeah, I am running the latest bios.. rev 904..
XP will show all processor details, but you need to get the CPU driver from Advanced Micro Devices, AMD – Global Provider of Innovative Microprocessor, Graphics and Media Solutions to enable support for cool n quiet. then you need to put the power profile to minimal to make it do the "MHz on demand" . i always had it enabled in the bios, then googled how to turn it on in XP, found the instructions.. then found XP hanging. vista has been going well now for a good few days, non stop (since disabled CnQ in bios - xp doesnt hang either).. and i have not wanted to go back to XP yet.
also running latest drivers for everything btw.

my vista 64 home premium freeze too... :(
i've everest 'cause i use it with LCDStudio to run my G15's lcd :)

i'm afflicted by freeze from a bit of time, and runring on of my last meditation, i've considered everest as one of the freeze reason.

Also 'cause LCD Studio can be considered a stable application, but from a bit of time it will crash too..

actually i'm using
q6600
4GB DDR2 800Mhz 5-5-5-15
Motherboard Intel dp35dp
Nvidia 8800GTS 640MB

... still waiting for a cure from the freeze

I have a G15 too, and also run Everest, I dont experience any freezing. What version of Everest you running?

indeed mine, it was a wrong clue, i've made some test without everest and lcd studio and vista freezing too :(

this morning i've reinstalled windows from scratch, hoppint that will fix it 8-)

BTW, Maximilian, is your CPU a Core2Quad 6600? The link you provided in your signature shows a Q6600 but the *words* in your signature seem to indicate a Core 2 Duo....

Also, your rig is similar to mine (See my signature), other than you going with an Intel based motherboard. Your XFX Graphics Card is basically the same as my eVGA 8800GTS, but your Zalman is a lot less powered than my OCZ ModXStream 780W.

Have you performed any sort of overclocking on you rig? How many devices (both internal, in terms of HDs and CD/DVD/BD drives as well as USB devices) do you have plugged up? I am wondering if your PSU is simply not powerful enough to maintain a constant load when gaming....that card draws a lot of power on its own.

it was a typo, 'cause early i've a dual 2 core E4500 :)

to be honest i didn't wont to change the Zalmal, but maybe it could be the reason of the problems, hmm i need to check the power too .

As, maybe, you know dp35dp didn't have any PS2 on board, so mouse (microsoft wireless) and keyboard (Logitech G15) must be controlled via usb.
Also on usb there are a multi-card reader, connected directly on the motherboard.

Actually i've 3 HD Sata 150GB ,150GB and 75GB...

anyway the doubt remain, why early not freeze ?
there are some heavy game, just like COD4 or CS:Source that have never caused any
problem, also TrackMania work fine with full option activaded, and a stupid game like CivRome that crash vista after 1 minutes :(

anyway, when i'll be at home i will install the game again and i'll try without a disk ;)

My Computer

It could be many different reasons - PSU failure brought on by continued use and close to max use - obviously when you first bought it it would not have a problem , but as time progresses components start to get old.

Look at automobile engines - no matter how well you maintain them, after time they start to work less and less efficiently - unless you replace minor and later on major components.

Computers are the same way.

i've made some test and i noticed inside the bios that i've ICH (what's it ? O_o) at 86° !!
i'm a bit worried about that also 'cause cpu and gpu temperature are correct.. so maybe that could be the reason of the crash ?

about the voltage:
cpu: 1.21
gpu: 3.22
+12: 12.2
+5: 4.97
+3: 3.28

.. i'm not so advanced to know if that value are normal, but during the game they are stable as a rock, so if that numbers are ok my PSU should be ok too ;)

oh.. and johngalt, reallyt thnx for the support :)

If your temps are displaying Fahrenheit, 86 is a good number.

If you're temps are displaying Centigrade (aka Celsius) that is a really really bad number.

You need cooling on that pronto!!!!

the temperature is in celusius, but i see some more post of peoples that say to have
I/O Controller Hub ( ICH ) Temp - 77*c/80, so i'm not so warried about it.

btw i've disconnected some usb stuff, like the SD-Reader card, and i notice that will increased the stability.... thnx again ^^
