What tasks do you have scheduled? Run disk cleaner and disable hibernation by deleting the file as well as other files.

I dont have any tasks schedule, must have been system tasks. Already did that too. I'm going to reboot and see if that does anything. Farfetched but I'll give it a shot.

Nothing. I'm going to enable ALL services, re boot then see if it does anything. If its the same, I'm going into safe mode. If its still the same I'll have to restore again...

If I was going to change OS's I would go to XP as I have the disks lol. Or install ubuntu.

I'm sure I can figure it out. Here are the steps I took after the restore:

Boot once, [first boot]

boot again, uninstall all HP bloatware then it ran over night

in the morning, install sp2 then latest drivers [network, sound, and memory card reader]

install AVG, CCleaner, SpybotSD, and Ashampoo burner

then started applying settings of my own. Folder views, registry settings, like shutdown times, folder memory cache, turned off TMM, set the hard drive to 'Advanced performance', turned off most visual settings. I also turned off a lot of stuff in Autoruns, but nothing different from before.

Doing it now. After that if the problem is fixed I'll shut down one by one to see which one it is. If it's even an issue from the OS... Could be something I fudged. lol

Going to try safe mode, the services didn't help...

Safe mode hs the the same results, what next? Do I revert back shipped state? It's running so slow, it used to not do this.

Anyways if I reverted back to factory shipped settings then start all over will that fix my issues?

I'd say maybe some piece of hp crap may be fouling it up. Did it come wwith antivirs preinstalled? I'd say buy a new full install of Home premium with a voucher for windows 7.

Everything HP is uninstalled to my knowing. Except two items, they fail to load the uninstalled so I can't perform it. Yes it did, it came with norton 2009, I ran the norton removal tool then installed AVG. Its so weird tho, I never had a problem before the stupid defrag then now all of a sudden it craps out. Odddddd.

I changed a few registry settings yes. A few posts back I stated one time I was removing old reg keys from uninstalled programs and when I was all done the machine acted the same way. Took forever to open a folder.

But the reg keys I changed currently are:

NoActiveDesktop
NoActiveDesktopChanges
BagMRU Size
SecondLevelCache [for the cpu]
WaitToKillServiceTimeout

Just small things like that...

Reverse the no active changes registry changes. Did you run disk cleanup? Can you also run through the clean up and repair modules in Glary Utilities?

I did that already, I reverted the no active desktop back to 1. I have ran disk cleanup.

Alright hold on, let me install it really quick.

What about Problems Reports and Solutions? Anything there? Event viewer and the application and system log - anything there? Reliability Monitor? Is Process Monitor showing the right Commit Charge and Total Memory Use? Any unusual processes?

There are 2 things I noticed. One is the driver for sound. Windows updated it, going to re-install the correct one. Also, in the event viewer, the memory card reader is showing up missing. It will error 4 times, one for each module sD xD etc. So I'm guessing driver issue as well.

As far as the memory usage being correct, it is.

No I have sigmatel sound. I'm going to update that now. No new processes except for all the services I re-enabled. No glary's made no difference. Explorer still spikes to about ~200mb and 50% cpu usage
