How much memory do you have installed?

My Computer

Hi dmex, here's my system set up

-----------------------------------
Opteron 185
A8N32-SLI Deluxe
4 Gigs Corsair XMS DDR 400
EVGA Geforce 8800 GT
Creative X-Fi xtreme music

I did discover that if i remove the card and use the Asus audio drivers it works fine but i lose the benefits of a sound card for gaming, so this will do for now.

My Computer

I haven't tested everything yet but so far it seems to be working, last night i finally went and took out my Audigy 2 ZS from my other machine and installed the current x64 drivers not the beta one. The sound problem is gone for now, all thats left is my "why the hell does vista home premium 32bit sleep function works flawlessly but the computer never wakes up under 64bit ultimate" problem. Can you guys point me to a good thread that might solve that issue for me, thanks.

My Computer

Does anyone have any more suggestions - I have tried all, but to no avail.
My latest attempt was to strip out the wirless USB adepter, reinstall a virgin copy of Vista and use cat5 connection. Again I brought everything up to date, installed sound drivers - all was great.
Then installed the Nvidia 8800 drivers - sound goes to C**P

I just started getting some audio problems so I ticked "Disable all enhancements" and its started working properly again...Have you guys tried that option?

My Computer

True.

This is about sound cards. I received another email from Creative today. they blame Microsoft Vista Service Pack 1.

I blame Creative- they have lagged far behind 90% of companies in developing drivers for older sound cards.

I think they saw it as an opportunity to force people to buy new cards that were Vista compatible, and did not really research the way the drivers needed to be written, and have thus far done nothing but create a bad name for themselves with *many* customers who used to formerly gloat about their products (myself included).

Any updates on this problem?

I came across this thread searching for fixes since I just came across the problem myself. Vista had been running fine until one day it crashed while playing GRID, at which point I accidentally hit the reset button which I had rigged to clear the CMOS.. I then went to Ubuntu for a week or two, realized there was a lot of stuff I needed back in Windows, and went back. Next thing you know, every time I open firefox or a folder my audio is skipping, cracking and popping. Sure enough after reading through this thread I too have found that it's the 8800 drivers. Without them everything is fine, with them the audio goes to ****. I've tried old drivers, new drivers, beta drivers, modded drivers - everything and it's all the same.

Additionally, and this is really annoying me, the performance of my 8800GTS is now **** as well. Using GRID for example, before all this started happening I was able to play it maxed out @ 1280x1024 perfectly smooth. Now I can't even run the game's menu, nevermind a race, at a much lower resolution with everything on low or turned off.

Any help is appreciated at this point.

I started having this problem myself this week until I realized I needed the manufacturer SATA drivers for my New HDD ;) Check all the devices in your comp for new drivers from the manufacturers website...

I have just started a list here http://www.vistax64.com/drivers/162306-drivers-hardware-support.html

It's weird because I haven't changed any hardware, and I've never had this problem before. Now no matter how many times I reinstall Vista it won't go away. I tried updating all my drivers but it didn't do anything.

The only thing I'm wondering about is the SATA drivers. I have a Gigabyte DS3 and the only SATA related drivers they have are for RAID I'm pretty sure. I have 2 SATA drives but I don't use RAID. I installed it anyway just in case, but no difference.

I'm wondering if there is just a standard SATA driver I need that I can't find for my DS3?

My Computer

I fixed it.

Turns out it was something totally different, though still the 8800's fault. When I cleared the CMOS, for some reason my saved BIOS settings for my CPU overclock (and other tweaks) had the PCIE Frequency set at 100 and the PCIE over volt at normal. 102 and +1.0V is what it takes for this card to be stable and functional with my configuration and other overclocks. I don't know why I didn't think to check that, the only reason I did was when I looked in CPUZ and saw the link width was 1x instead of 16x.

So yeah, that fixed the sound issues and the extremely poor performance I was getting.

If you have an 8800 and are getting these issues (everyone in this thread?) try setting your PCI-E frequency to 102 in your BIOS and upping the PCI-E voltage to +1.0V.

My Computer

I have a 8800gt and have the same issues, how do i set the pci-e freq and the voltage? Thanks for the help if this really is the fix, Ive tryed everything else.

pd

Ive never changed anything in the BIOS before .. :(

Hi, pdollack, and welcome to the forums. RE: how to change the settings, I first have to ask - have you tried everything else here before yo resort to that? This is an advanced configuration technique, and likely specific to his motherboard, so unless you have the *same* motherboard and have tried all the other fixes, I would not recommend you doing this *especially* as you have never worked in the BIOS before.

If you are gung-ho about doing this, then pull out your motherboard manual as it will tell you exactly where that option is in your BIOS....

Or else download the manual from your motherboard manufacturer....

We'd help, but we don't know what it is....

I started getting this problem again recently and tried everything to fix it. What it turned out to be, was my soundcard, which is the HT Omega Claro going bonkers. This is a replacement I had gotten through Newegg, as the first one started having similar problems.

Turns out it isn't my antivirus software causing it, but the soundcard itself. Strange but true, and I'm not very happy with HT Omega soundcards anymore.

Right now, I'm using the onboard soundcodec, while I try to decide what
replacement soundcard to get if any.

Update: Found my trouble, it turned out to be Intel's Matrix Storage drivers for AHCI mode, that were causing all my trouble. I set the SATA controller back to IDE using the registry edit, then rebooted, and renabled IDE mode in the bios.
This is something for other people to keep in mind, that in some cases it's not the motherboard that is causing this problem, but RAID/AHCI drivers.

Since I switched back to IDE mode, don't have any trouble with my soundcard.

People here seem to have tried all sorts of things, and they seem quickly happy that they have sorted the problem

On my case, I have a RAMPAGE FORMULA ASUS MB and have an 8800 GTX VGA and I had ELITE PRO SB Sound Card

I start having this problem since I used Widowns Vista 64 Bits

I decided to change the sound card and got myself a XONAR D2 Asus SC, but you know what? Same S%%%T

I amended all sort of thing on the CMOS such as deactivated the MB sound cad etc, they all work great, but after few PC restart, same problem, I really don't know what to do

The problem is that I have 8 GB of Ram that want to take advantage off due to my Load use on Graphic edition....

I’m desperate

Got some more update for ya, if you can my previous post, you'll find out what is my PC Config

Today I have un-installed the GTX 8800 Driver and tried the sound, it did work perfectly, I'm presuming now that It's 100% due to the Driver of the Graphic Card as some of ya have suggested in the post on this Topic, I can confirm that It's nothing to do with the BIOS or the Sound card itself as I had two diffrent cards (ASUS XONAR D2 and ELITE PRO AUDIGY) and they both came out with the same problem

Now I have re-installed the GTX 8800 Driver and it's from ASUS website, the sound card seems to be fine, but usualy the probleme come back after few days and few PC restarts, will keep you updated.

All the best
