The driver rollback or swapping the video card with another just to check your system as a whole. You could also uninstall your card from Windows Device Manager, reboot and then reinstall it. That's just one way to do it. You could also uninstall it from WDM, shut down, remove the power connector, reboot and then reconnect the power detector and let Windows detect and install it again.

Take out the HD.
Boot into the BIOS.
Re-enter any data that would have been erased when you removed the battery.
Ensure that your HD is set to the correct boot device in the bios.
If you do not have a floppy drive ensure it is disabled in the bios.
Ensure your boot device priority is correct in the bios.
I think your graphics card is a PCI-E type, set your settings for this. PCI is for the onboard.
Ensure the boot from lan is disabled.

Save these settings.

Boot without the HD connected.
If you see a display on the screen(even if it comes with a boot failure) then your MOBO and GFX are fine.
Next plug in the HD.
If you get an error while booting try safe mode.
Inform me with an update.

Set your graphics to PCI-E in the bios, then boot into safe mode.
Ensure your monitor is plugged into your card.
Go into device manager.
Delete the display driver listed.
Uninstall all of the display driver software (nvidia)
Reset your computer and try to boot normally.
The reason why safe mode will work is because of drivers that are not loaded.
Download the new software for your card.

What is the error code on your device manager telling you?
Code 10 is display driver.

If your bios is set to PCI-e you should be getting a display all the time from your graphics card.
Do you get a display from your graphics card when it is in the bios?
If you do then it is a software problem, if not then it is a hardware problem.

Is the graphics card actually displaying during the POST? I would think it would be the onboard graphics chipset. The graphics card drivers aren't even loaded yet. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something.

I just realized this post is out of order because I used the earliest notification in my e-mail. Sorry about that. :(

The graphics card should show on post.
How many people do you know that have a PCI-e graphics card connected.
Otherwise it would mean moving cables around all the time from the onboard to the PCI-e card.
The main reason for drivers of graphics cards if for 3d and other card specific capabilities.

You are saying device manager is showing unknown device.

This is telling me your mobo or graphics card may be at fault.
As you have checked your graphics card the only thing left is your mobo.
See if you can install VGA drivers for the card manually. You wont get areo or anything special, it may not even pick up the correct resolution but it is for diagnostic purposes.
