System Restore Is Missing?

At least I feel that SR work should come to a stop until Jacee is done. Malware often if the cause of SR malfunction. The virus writers know that with a good restore point, you can remove the virus. After Jacee is done we will know how to progress with the SR.

Sounds good. Thanks.

Today I did run a full Threatfire deep scan, another MWB fast (about 1hr) scan, and an Avast quick scan and found nothing since MWB removed the Backdoor.Zapchast last night.

I don't see any malware related items in the logs above. See how to set the size of system restore here Reduce System Restore’s Disk Usage in Vista - How-To Geek
Also see this System Restore: frequently asked questions

Good news about no malware. But doesn't explain why system restore still brings up same error as in first post when started from standard user profile.

I'm not sure what the size of system restore has to do with anything and the FAQ link is just basic info - nothing to do with this situation. We have hundreds of Gb of available space on this disk so space is not an issue.

Volume Shadow copy now runs auto and starts properly in all profiles but System Restore still does not work in standard user.

System restore needs to be run by ( or/ as) an Administrator. "Standard user" can't run it, unless given 'permission(s)' by the Administrator. It's a "safety feature".

@ Jacee : That's right Jacee, I was also thinking that.

Hello again Bucks13

I don't know if you tried something like this already,
but to be completely sure...
Can you please execute the file Create RestorePoint.vbs on that standard user, and see what happens.

Hi,
I've always run system restore from the standard user. I NEVER login as admin user unless I absolutely have to. Prior to installing any software I always created a restore point, always from standard user. I can't remember if it asks me for admin password at that point (it probably did, which would mean it's running "as" admin) but that's not the issue. Please note that my very first post in this thread lists the ERROR received when trying to create a restore point. That has nothing to do with permission from an admin. There was/is a problem that results in an actual error, with an error code.
Thanks

It sounds to me like where ever you are making your backups, hasn't been registered correctly.

bucks13, do you by any chance have "unhide hidden files" open? Rehide them if you do. Bring us up to date on this topic please. :)
