That's the most worthless details I've ever seen. I guess reading the dump file would be more informative. I don't know how to open one.

Since the problem came up when you were viewing video at YouTube and the sound kept playing, it looks like the problem is in your graphics card (do you have one?). I don't know what you are doing now to get the problem. Usually a BSOD will reference something like nvldvm..... if you have nvidia graphics. On the other hand, a power supply going bad could do the same thing. I'm presuming the screen itself isn't bad. You could try reinstalling your graphics drivers to see if that makes any difference. Or, if you have a graphics card, you could pull it and reseat it.

Just some thoughts.

It appears that you're using SP1. If that's the case, is there some reason you haven't installed SP2?

I've used two different monitors and have the problem with each. I understand that a graphics card and video card are the same thing, or are they? I was going to replace the video card earlier but didn't know how to tell what card it was. If you can tell me how to locate the right card I will pull it and reset it.

I haven't had any more problems after having the screen shut down three times this morning within a 30 minute period. That's the most often I've had the problem. I was in the email tool's section at the time, trying to figure out why I was no longer able to send or receive emails with Firefox. It almost seemed like me being there was causing the problem. The problem with receiving emails by firefox just started today. Haven't been sending many emails but I had trouble sending one a couple days ago. I was finally able to get one sent, earlier, that was in the outbox since yesterday, but have another one stuck there now that won't go out. I can send and receive by using internet explorer so the firefox difficulty is no big thing at this time. Just mention it in case there could be a connection with the other problem.

yes, graphics card and video card are the same thing.

If you have a graphics card on your mobo, you can't miss it. The memory sticks are usually only an inch or so high whereas the graphics card is probably 3-4 inches tall and looks like a circuit board. The card may be held in with some detents which you have to press to release it. I don't know which mobo you have? Which video card do you have (Device Manager\Display Adapters).

I asked about SP2 because "Service Pack 1_0" was shown in the problem details you posted a while back. When you open Control Panel\System does it show SP2?

Wither,
Yes, it shows that I have SP2 installed, under Control Panel/system.

The video card is an "Intel (R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family"

As far as being able to physically locate it, the only cards I see are four that are of the exact same size and all four grouped in a row about a quarter inch apart, and a larger card which is at the bottom of the mobo, and which has two telephone type plug in spots. I have nothing plugged into these.

You're using onboard graphics so you don't have a card. The four things you mentioned are probably the DIMMs (RAM). The other card is probably a modem.

In this case, the only thing you can do relative to the graphics is to reinstall the mobo drivers.

Wither,
I had responded but guess I must have previewed it and not posted it.

'Just Ask' technical support had earlier had me download another driver, but the problem persisted. Reloading the original drivers, as you suggested, seems to have solved the problem. It's been a week or so now with no problems with the screen going blank. Thanks to you and the other two for the assistance.

The problem with the monitor going dead when working on the computer has been solved but now the monitor being set to go to sleep does not produce any results! Also setting the computer to shut down, after any length of inactivity, does not produce any results either.

Which Power Setting are you using? The time to put the display to sleep has to be less than the time to put the computer to sleep.

On my monitor, I have a power setting similar to the power setting in Control Panel. I have it switched off. You might check your monitor since it's possible the two are conflicting.
