Vista Network Speed Slows over time

That's weird that vista would cause that. Either way, it shouldn't be doing that as the average home user would not know what to do. Lame.

Let us know if its resolved with a fresh install :)

I do not understand the phrase "lock of the router" -- what do you mean by this ?

The average home user probably shuts off his computer after each use (?) and avoids the issue altogether (?). Who knows. Xmas is coming -- Windows 7 in my stocking ?

The joy of routers, is that they can be used remotely. Therefore if you can use it, so can your neighbours.

If you do not want this to happen you need to install a security password to ensure that only you and you family are enjoying the benfits of your system. otherwise anyone in the vicinity of it's signal can use it. This will lower your speed.

It's just a thought, but worth checking.

They maybe working with a wired connection, but if someone external is also using the router wirelessly because it is not password protected then the speed will reduce.

The way I'm interpreting your post has to be incorrect. The way I read it your stating that someone is using a wired router wirelessly?

I apologise, I presumed your router was both wireless and wired like my own. If it is only wired ignore my rant. I tend to ramble at my age.

Yeah, I agree 94porkr, this is definitely a Vista issue. I'm using the latest drivers for my NIC without success. I'll probably throw in the towel as well as I don't see Microsoft focusing on fixing such an issue...especially with Windows 7 now available. Please let us know if your upgrade is successful!

My Computer

I have down loaded every update and Vista is as fast, if not faster than it has ever been. Are people blaming their internet connections and the ability to down load updates for their slow connections?

No matter what OS you use, if you do not update the software, eventually you will have issues, unless you never go on-line. It's coming up to Christmas, get a new ISP!

That is correct -- the problem is still there. I have decided it is VISTA. New network card and same issue persists.

Only fix I have now is Windows ( cha ching for $ 150 family pack ) plus more storage ( $ 100 for 500GB external drive -- cha ching ) + my time ( cha ching again ) ! :)

UPDATE for anyone who is watching : Windows 7 upgrade applied in about 3 hours -- no issues with install. Network bandwidth problem resolved.

3 hours to UPGRADE --- the full load I did on my XP system went faster but required a lot of prep work copying user data off first
