Vista x64 Capable antivirus

I have to agree with you about AVG. I used to love it but since i have found AVAST I won't be going back.

If you want true Vista 64-Bit security, something light on resources and fantastic malware detection, there's only one choice in my humble opinion (and yes I've purchased and tried most of them), and that's ESET's Smart Security (AntiVirus, Personal Firewall, Spyware) or ESET's NOD32 AntiVirus.

Kind Regards

Neil

I'd not recommend NOD32 anymore, while it's light on resources, it's also quite significantly behind in detection of malware.

Norton Internet Security 2009 does alot better with pretty much negligible performance loss on the system, and FEW false positives (same as ESET). Yes, REALLY... it's darn speedy and use up less than 10MB RAM and just a few % of the CPU every now and then while running resident.

Check this link out and compare how nod32 performs against other suites...
http://www.av-comparatives.org/ The latest on-demand comparative really says it all...

And let me remind you that ALL of the suites listed are the *commercial* versions...
Avira and Avast does great on this test. That doesn't mean *anything* when it comes to judging their free counterparts though.... They also suffer from alot of false positives, which is a major annoyance.

I switched from norton (just expired recently) to ESET antivirus on my xp x32 machine and ESET smart security on my vista x64. have to say I prefer ESET a lot more. also eset did find 3 little buggers that norton didn't spot on one of my external drives!

Those could false positives though. Specially if it alerted on the heuristic analysis and not on a known virus.

nope they were damn viruses attached to known good software/utilities. (norton on the other hand was giving me tons of false positives)...lol they should have a tick box "don't give false positives for the next few hours" ....it can get really annoying sometimes.

My NIS 2009 hasn't given me a single false positive yet. Actually it hasn't given me a single positive at all, except for the occasional cookie, which it handles silently now.

I'm not at home atm, so I can't check. I *think* it's 64bit, but I'm not entirely sure. I'll check when I get home tomorrow. :)

Ok, at home and have checked. It installs in the x86 folder and runs as x86.
