Im looking for a Web Browser than can actually be installed (No Portable Versions) in Vista Extended Kernel, i have Slimjet but its "outdated" uses Chrome 92 and i want to be as close as possible to the most Recent Chrome version, as you saw im looking for Chromium Based browsers but if you have a fast web browser from any code i would be happy to try it

Also i have tested Chrome portable and it runs fine the latest version (96 or 97 i dont remember)

As far as I know, the last Chrome version for use on Vista is v49. Opera, which is a Chrome based browser is stuck at v36. I find Firefox v52.9 to be my best option for Vista. There's a whole thread on browsers in this forum and this seems to be the best answer for Chrome browsers-

Hello. On my Vista Business 64bit build 6.0.6003 with the latest updates from July 13, 2021 including IE9, as browsers I use MyPal 29.2.1 64bit, regularly weekly updated Serpent 59.2.0 64bit, NewMoon 28.10.4a1 64bit. The default is 360 Chrome Browser 13.5.1052.0 (... just got an update yesterday ...) on the Chrome kernel 86.0.4240.198. I didn't make friends with K-meleon.

Note the Serpent version is a typo but it's not a Chrome browser.

Hi Joadix100:

You might want to read WinClient5270's thread Software Compatible with Windows Vista Extended Kernel in the Vista board of the MSFN forum. The first post in that thread hasn't been edited for a while but lists multiple browsers that should work with the Vista extended kernel. That first post indicates the any Firefox Quantum browser (v57 and higher) would be compatible, but I didn't install the extended kernel and haven't read that entire thread so I'm not sure if that includes Firefox v89 (rel. 01-Jun-2021) and higher browsers that have the new Proton interface.

That MSFN thread is quite long now so I'd suggest you post there and ask if anyone has an updated list of compatible browsers, including the highest version of Google Chrome that works correctly.

Im looking for a Web Browser than can actually be installed (No Portable Versions) in Vista Extended Kernel....i want to be as close as possible to the most Recent Chrome version....i have tested Chrome portable and it runs fine the latest version...
In case there is confusion, the extended kernel for Vista is not a Microsoft product: it is a hack that is officially supported by nothing and will never be anything more. It has been nearly six years since the Chromium Project wanted installers that worked on Vista, so you just might have to settle for a portable browser. For those who want to install the latest mainstream browsers, the obvious and best solution is to run Windows 7, 8, 10 or 11 like most of the world’s PC users.

Even for those diehards who are still running plain vanilla Vista and prefer Firefox-based browsers, the only options that are still being updated in any degree are the portable browser builds from roytam1 of MSFN, of which Serpent 52 is perhaps the best. (MyPal developer feodor2 was forced to stop after Moonchild Productions complained about Mozilla Public License violations.) To be sure, yet another developer once created an installer for roytam1’s browsers, but I uploaded that installer to VirusTotal on more than one occasion and the results were rather scary.

In conclusion: For those who dislike portable browsers, Vista is clearly the wrong OS now and the extended kernel does not change that. For those who want to communicate with people who are actually using the extended kernel, this is clearly the wrong forum. One last thing: 2 GB RAM is insufficient for Vista x64. Good luck!

Well... the laptop supports 2GB max. so i cannot upgrade, but it works fine, i just use it to edit documents and other "school" aplications, i now running Slimjet that can install Chromium 92 without complaining but i wanted something more recent, but looking at what you said, im going to stick to it, at least Slimjet is not discontinued and has updates from time to time, maybe in some time an upgrade to Chrome 93 or better

Version 32.0.3.0 (Latest is 32.0.4.0) you have to download the program from a windows 7+ computer so it downloads the latest version instead of 10 (Latest version oficially suported by slimjet on vista and xp), there is x86 and x64 versions of the web browser in latest versions

I gave Slimjet a try during late 2016/early 2017, and versions 11 and 12 (based on Chromium 51 and 53) also supported vanilla Vista. However they did not work well on XP, which is probably why they only offer 10 as a legacy download now. (If their installers still do not complain about Windows 6.0, that is probably a holdover from those days when Slimjet tried to continue support for Vista.) Sites such as filehorse or filepuma probably still have versions 11 and 12. However, if wither 3 is suddenly looking for a Chromium browser that works on vanilla Vista and is more up-to-date than his Opera, then he might want to try Yandex 17.4.1 (a Chromium 57 fork from 2017).

I wasn't looking for a Chrome browser. I was just trying Slimjet out since I never heard of it (just like Yandex). I didn't try to download any of the later versions of Slimjet since none of them list Vista as being supported. I might give it a try, as suggested by Joadix100, from one of my Win 7 systems and then transfer it to my Vista system. Not high priority.

Remember you need to have the Extended Kernel installed (Requieres some skill and a x64 bit Vista installation)

Since Slimjet 10 appears to have become the topic, can either of you tell me how well it supported TLS 1.2 on vanilla Vista? Although I did try the browser in 2016, not many websites were exclusively https in those days and I did not yet appreciate how crucial TLS was going to become. (Looking back at my October 2016 posts about Slimjet, I was mainly concerned about Flash Player back then. My how times have changed!)

i suggest you trying the 360 extreme repack browser, it needs no kernels and its chrome 8x, it runs fine if you have a dual core atleast

There it is a Windows Server 2008 update that you can install on vista, also a registry file but you can do it manually, it enables TLS 1.1 and 1.2 on Vista (Plus, it does NOT change the build to 6003)

I included a set of instructions made by me to make it easier

It is good to have an advanced user posting at this old forum! ;) I have been familiar with that procedure for years (see IE9: Last Supported Browser for Vista). I take your reply to mean that Slimjet 10 only supported TLS 1.2 insofar as IE9 (and therefore Vista itself) supported TLS 1.2, is that correct? In that case, I could not recommend Slimjet 10 for our esteemed guru wither 3, who once attempted the above-referenced procedure but ultimately rejected it.

A little-known fact: The portable version of Chrome 50 actually worked on vanilla Vista, but I have no idea where to find Chrome 50 in 2021.

The best option is mypal or Serpent from roytam for Vanilla vista (Both based in Firefox 68) , and enabling TLS 1.1 and 1.2 is a Must for me

I like Slimjet. Actually works better than Opera on my e-mail. For some reason, Opera quit letting me open my inbox.
