why has my laptop slowed down?

any way i can change the settings of the cpu, ram and voltages by entering the bios to speed up, well, umm..., everything?

Don't bother. Honestly, the person who sold you that laptop should be shot. Integrated graphics? A Pentium CPU? Vista Basic? 32-bit Vista with 4GB RAM? I would never try to make a quick buck off a customer.

If you can take it back.

ok i think i can tell everyone the whole story. at first, i was lookin in pc world for a REFURB lappy. i found the acer 5735 644g with 2.0ghz intel core 2 duo cpu, 4gb ram and 500gb hdd, a bit like this, but with 500gb and refurb:> Acer 5735-644g i bought it, took it home to show my m8, cuz i got mine before he got his off ebay. after a coupla hours, vista wouldn't boot up. no restore, safe mode didn't work, it got to the windows vista green bar loading pic, then went black and only the mouse worked. i didn't know then, but all i had to do was reinstall vista. but of course, me and my mum went to a pcworld store and complained. i had ordered the lappy i have now before we went and had a look around at the acer options. there was only this one for the value of the specification for the price (my budget was £400) . i had tried out windows 7 rc on my dad's business computer, which i thought looked great, and of course, i installed it on mine. after the summer hols nearly finished, i wanted to reinstall vista. couldn't find the recovery or windows installation disc for my computer, and went and used my sisters DELL installation cd for the same windows homebasic.
now i had driver problems, video codec problems and now this.
i honestly can't take this lappy back and get another one for the same price.

And Frostmourne, i don't have a gun to shoot the dealer, so that is option one out. like i said on another post, i am stuck with this.

What specs were above the 5 mark? I mean if you have 4GB of Ram wouldnt that show a 5.9? I have 4GB and it shows that even after a reinstall. Try defreagging your pc regarding the lagging. Also a smaller screen resolution will increase framerates on games even with an integrated card.

Hi Lil,

The list looks working except that I might consider save on the case and put a little more on the PSU. Looking at the availability of that store, the Cosair or the OCZ might be better. It is very important to have a clean stable power source. 600W to 750W would be big enough. Then all you need is an OS.

Good luck and enjoy!

That motherboard won't work with an E8400, look for an EP45 motherboard, not an AM3+. A GTX 275 is also faster than a 4890.

as you will see i have got the case down to £15, got a more expensive PSU,
a little upgraded CPU to 3.13ghz, got a compatible motherboard for the same price as the other MB, and i found the cheapest gtx 275 (just for you Frostmourne!) with the extra money and now everything comes neatly under £600!!

You'll need at least 1TB which will be enough for a while, and a GTX 275 is around 5-10% in some games such as Crysis at 1920x1200, which you'll need a good monitor for. I'd recommend the Benq E2200HD or the G2200HD, and an HDMI connection. For that, make sure that the graphics card has an hdmi output.

You could also wait for P55, Core i5 and the new 5000 series cards from ATI.

first of all, i have a huge sony PLASMA screen. bit old tho. and no hdmi.
i really don't want to spend money on more monitors.
it looks like i might have ditch the plan of earning £600 odd and keep my lappy (at least it it plays SPORE good in high res).
i am thirteen next year so i can't really get an income.
my parents are complaining about me on the lappy too much so making a gaming computer will make it worse.

Thanks,

Lil' Domii
