why has my laptop slowed down?

i only play combat arms and want to know if it would be better to turn off 3D games. and if so how do u do it. if you turn it off what will it improve besides the index score

First thing i would do is to re run WEI. have you installed any new hardware or alot of software since it dropped?

If you have Home Premium, you can turn off Aero to improve performance depending on your pc, but that defeats one of the points of Vista. If you want to, open up personalization, windows color and appearance and open the classic appearance properties link. Choose what you want.

hey everyone.
i haven't mentioned this since i have reinstalled vista, but i have noticed that, since then, the windows experience index scores have gone down 1 or 2 points. i have installed all the latest drivers using drivermax but little performance has been improved. and it seems that the gaming graphics have let me down on wei. also, the second lowest score on wei is the aero performance. it is 4.0 on the aero because i have recently changed the theme to windows classic for better performance. i have changed back to aero, and haven't bothered the update the wei score. here is a snip of the wei score right now-

i remember the score being up in the 5's but now, it is down.

just wondering if it was to do with reinstalling vista by any chance?
i'm not asking for a solution-but you can give me one if u can- just want to know what is causing the laggyness.
look at my system specs to see why i think my computer should have better performance.

i have run wei still exactly the same.
as i said on starter post i installed necessary items - internet browser from another computer, Microsoft office suite 2007, windows live messenger, partition manager. i turned off windows defender because apparently it pays to have only one antivirus running, that helped gaming but not wei.
and yes, how do you turn off 3d game??!! people say it helps but never told me how to turn it off.
as it says in sys specs, i have home basic.

Removing Aero removes the point of Vista. Uninstalling games might help with hard drive space, but otherwise there is no point. Download Glary Utilities and go through the modules on the clean up and repair tab and startup and repair tab. Ignore the memory manager though.

Then run a disk defrag with Auslogics.

i have vista home basic and the only legally bought game i have is spore.
i am on a school computer right now lemur so when i get home i will try some of those tips from pcworld.
