Which is a better one?

I am interested in computers so i just wanted to know,
is the nvidia 295 or ati 4890 better?and by what specs.

hm....... the 4890 is a single core and is the current fastest gpu core................ i think the 295 is two cores (correct me if i'm wrong guys) personally.... i would get a 4890 over a 295.....

the 295 is not on there,

i run the 4670HD 1GB and love the card have no issues ever, can run everything.

the 4890 has the performance edge by quite far compared with the GTX260, but Nvidia build quality & cooling capability far exceeds that from the ATI camp....

a lot off ppl will go for the performance regardless, but many suffer high temps & poor build quality...even faliure.

I will acknowledge that shody cooling is plaguing "Both" card companies. As for ATI's build quality, I have to disagree with you there. I've been with ATI since 1999-2000 and have only had one card crap out on me (3870).

As to the XFX version of the 4890, that's the one I have and so far no issues.

But I'll have to admit that I've never had an Nvidia card (or product).

and if you have a crossfire capable board...... two of them will really run the crap out of everything you throw at it :D

You cannot just curse ATI with your 9 yrs old experience. I have been using ATI on my desktop and laptop and its giving me an amazing gaming performance.

please point out the text which states ATI cards dont ''perform'' well..??


ALL are entitled to their opinions, i can only report on my experience & the experience of others on H/W forums...

& the information i gave is in fact correct..... ATI have great cards, lets not beat around the bush, but they're not as refined as Nvidia..... as a long time user of both GPU manufacturers, & a long time reader in GPU development & performance, i can safely stand by my statements....

if you can get a 4890 to idle @ 40c with the stock cooler, running 25% fanspeed.... then i will reconsider the heat issue.... the same goes for ALL HD3xxx & HD4xxx series cards... they're VERY hot!!

now, build quality.... 2 of my ATI cards coolers have basically been loose on the PCB (the introduction of XFX may fix this), & putting an ATI card in your rig without cutting yourself is a pretty hard thing to do .... they're just jagged & thrown together (hence the lower price), but they do perform for the most part...

im no NV fanboy, but i say what i see.....

Skunksamsh - not to get in the middle here but why not, you never smashed on ATI at all, i personally love ATI cards in my opinion the out preform what they are rated at, just like kenwood car audio does.

i have ran both Nvidia and ATI cards, and personally the ATI cards have more options available than Nvidia and are more easily configurable, but it has been awhile since i have had a Nvidia card so that could have changed.

my mobo is actually a Nvidia chipset with the onboard video being a 8200 with 512mb, but i am running a ATI video card as i already had it and it is 1GB.

they both do the same but i prefer ATI.

there is my 2 cents.

I'll reiterate what I said earlier, then leave this debate as is. In my nine years of using ATI cards, I've only had one instance of a video card going bad due to heating issues. I think that's pretty good, especially since I kept an X800Pro running for better than 3 years.

Out of all those cards only the 3870 crapped out on me. That's pretty good in my book and I'm just calling it the way I see it as well

I've never owned any Nvidia products so I can't speak of their quality.

Oh, and Nvidia isn't exactly blowing ATI away in the cooling department either - ATI Radeon HD 4890 vs. Nvidia GeForce GTX 275 - TechSpot

i have a ''powercolor X800GTO'', what a great card....:D, i can happily play COD4 all day long on it at med setting with very respectable framerates.....


& these 55nm GT200 cards are not as good as the 65nm counterparts, even though the architecture is more efficient, they shrunk the coolers, removed the RAM heat sink from the rear of the card (back plate), & i believe the 65nm cards were 10 or 12 phase PCB's as apposed to the 8 phase PCB on the 55nm... (this is not gospel, but i do know the PCB differs so please check this for yourselves)

but i could pick holes in anything given enough time......lol

i must say though XFX's move to ATI has really started to make them far more appealing, if for nothing else but the customer support....they are SUPERB!!
