All my 32x programs suddenly stops working, I have vista business 64x.

Hello!

I'm new to this forum, and joined because I got a problem that really sucks;
I was watching a movie one night, then when I'm going to bed I hit the sleep button on both my computers.
The day after I go away from home for some days, then I got back today. I pressed the Enter button on both computers, they start up without any problems.

But when I login to the one I use most of the time, I notice that Firefox wont work, there is no error, actually, it starts but nothing happens, its just blank, it says "Done" in the bottom left corner, but it is nothing in the Firefox window.

And when I close FF I get a error;

"Firefox has stopped working
1.Check online for a solution and close the program
2.Close the program"

If I chose the 1st option I get this message "The exception enknown software exception (0xc0000005) occurred in the application at location 0x02ff8cf0.

Click on OK to terminate the program."

Then I tried IE (32x), same thing there, so I try IE 64x, it worked.
Also I tried to restart my switch, ping some webpages, release / renew IP.
There was no difference. I also tried System Restore, but I could only restore to about 15 minutes back in time, wich was when I turned on my comuter today. And it didnt help.
Then I tried to start some games to see if it worked, first Peggle Deluxe, that worked fine. Then WoW, that did not work fine at all. The first thing that is wrong is that when I start WoW the launcher says "Cannot connect to the News Server. Please check the network and try again later." I pressed play anyways, just to see what happens, and what happens is that the screen turns dark, Winamp is still playing music, but no sound from WoW, and alt + tab doesnt work, same with the windows button or alt+ f4. but ctrl+alt+del works. so I was able to close the program, it wasnt responding either ofc.

Now I've been searching around the internet hoping to find some solution, but I cant seem to find anything, and TBH I dont really know what to search for, I really dont know what the problem is, even tho there is so many symptoms. It looks as if all 32bit programs just dont work anymore! (Altho winamp.exe*32 runs without any problems)

I had this problem one time before, I was playing Crysis and someone spoke to me to I was gonna press ESC, but I missed and hit Sleep. When the computer started again, it froze at startup, so I restarted it and then it started normally but no 32x programs worked porperly.

I work as an IT apprentice, so I know something about computers, but not very much. My boss on the other hand know very much but he's on vacation so I cant ask him, anyhow; The first time I had this problem we were 5-6 guys who all work within IT. Some not so experienced ( like me ) and others with lots of knowledge about computers. But we didnt come up with an answer. After about 2 hours my boss told me to try a system restore, that worked. But now I only have 1 system restore point, and that didnt help.

So, if anyone here knows anything about this problem, please HELP ME!

I dont know if it has anything to say but my computer spec is:

- Asus P6T Deluxe Motherboard
- ATI Gainward Radeon 4780X2 2GB
- Intel i7 920 @ 2,67 GHz
- Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1333MHz 6GB CL9-9-9-24 for Core i7 x2

Please help me, I read the "How to ask for help " thread too, and will put my PC specs in my profile.

Also, just now I got another error from NOD32, I dont know if it has anything to do with this problem, but it say "Failure to open socket. - OK"

Have you checked if any updates that could've conflicted with this problem, were installed, prior to sleeping them?

Or, did you install any program that changes the registry, prior to sleeping them?

My recommendation would be, once you get it working again, disable all the Sleep options. Some machines will just never work right with hibernate or sleep. By the time you root out the problem the PC will be obsolete. It's not worth the effort generally.

No I havn't checked yet, I'm not at home ATM. But I will check tomorrow after work, but I'm pretty sure my PC didn't install any updates that I havnt seen. The last time I used my PC before this happend was when my girlfriend and I was watching a movie.

After the movie I pressed the sleep button and was away for 3-4 days, then I got home and you know the rest of the story..

I am going to look tomorrow, and see if there has been any changes to the registry. Maybe you could give me a hint on how and what I chould check ? :)

Lol, are you suggesting that I just leave it be, just stop caring and let my new computer stand there and be useless? :p

"Some machines will just never work right with hibernate or sleep."

I'm pretty sure it's a software thing, I cant imagine how some hardware parts could result in this error. So I think every machine will work with hibernate and sleep, as long as there is no software that causes this error to occure:D

I just need to find out what this error might be and how to fix it
oh, BTW; Good night, and thanks for the replies!

What I'm suggesting is you state you had a problem with sleep before. The problem was triggered by sleep now. Some machines you just cannot get hibernate and/or sleep to work correctly. I'm saying, disable sleep so you don't activate it by accident. Just turn the thing on and off every day. Works for me. I never use that hibernate or sleep crap. It must be 15% at least of all support calls. Just turn the thing off when you ain't usin' it.

There is still better ways than just disabling. Besides, that wont fix his problem.

Something was corrupted during the 3-4 day period he left it sleeping.

Leaving a computer on stand by/sleep for a long period of time will cause it run slower when taken out of stand by/sleep and can screw up active programs in the process.

You should take a look at the event viewer first in administrative tools.

If somebody would bother to read my first post.. 1) it doesn't claim to fix the problem and 2) it says, when you get the problem fixed, I suggest you take steps to avoid recurrence(i.e. disable sleep and hibernate)

Guess I won't waste any more time on this.

Hello Oedelagt,
When you get this sorted you may want to go to the Asus site and update your Bios, (if needed), as there are some issues with this MB when resuming from sleep. It just might stop this happening again.
The link is to the Asus forum, it will take you to your MB page, you can find downloads there.
Hope this helps, good luck and post your results, thanks.

Hi. I was just trying to save you some aggravation. Guess I shouldn't edit posts, then change 'em a bit later. Sometimes the first version propagates. :) I'm sure the hibernate/sleep stuff works a lot better than when those features first came out, but they were an excuse for trouble in the beginning. Hope you get it straightened out.
