The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: i8042prt

Probably here you go drivers for Intel http://downloadcenter.intel.com/confirm.aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmirror.intel.com/17882/eng/IATA89ENU.exe&agr=&ProductID=&DwnldId=17882&strOSs=&OSFullName=〈=eng

I don't know it install all "Intel 4 Series..." when you install it again run DriverMax and create new log and tell us what is motherboard (to find new BIOS for you)

Thank you so much for that! I installed it, rebooted the comp and a tick is appearing next to it! :)

AH yes, I forgot to say that driver max was not giving BIOS info... Here is the info:

BIOS Type: AMI
BIOS Date: November 10th 2008
BIOS ID: 64-0315-000001-00101111-111008-Eaglelake-A1141001
BIOS OEM: BIOS Date: 11/10/08 17:03:23 Ver: 08.00.14 - 0315
Chipset: Intel 2E20 rev 3
SuperIO: Unknown
Manufacturer: ASUSTeK Computer INC.
Motherboard: P5QL/EPU

I have tried to find the correct motherboard here:
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?install_nav=1&SLanguage=en-us

To get the updated bios but I am having trouble :s

edit:

DriverMax - Computer information

So I think I might have found something to solve most of the intel drivers needed for the above link.

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sea...=Intel®+Chipset+Software+Installation+Utility

But I am not 100% sure whether it is the same thing due to the little disclaimer at the bottom.

EDIT: I went ahead and downloaded the second file from the bottom link (intel) but it didn't update my drivers (it did something but who knows what hehe) (I didn't restart the computer though because it didn't say to do so)

EDIT2: Found the page for the mouse driver! Will update now and let you know how it went!

EDIT3: The keyboard/mouse were updated successfully! Now all that needs updating is the motherboard/bios and the intel stuff! 7 + bios to go! :)

Ah excellent! I shall get the newer one then!

However, did you want me to download from that first link you gave me the bios stuff right... Not to worry about the chipset there (since it is older than the intel website)

EDIT: OK I have updated to the latest version of the intel chipset but it did nothing to my BIOS (i.e. it still dated as the 11/10/2008) and strangely even though I updated to the latest chipset (9.1.1.1019 or whatever it happens to be) I still get 7 crosses next to all the chipset drivers in this report:

http://www.drivermax.com/driver/drivers.php?computer_id=D1J5BL624S9J94TFOTX2M6E799B1OH&user=Petze

and it says that I am still on the older version and I need to update to a version that is not as new as the one I currently have!

Very wierd. It told me the same message at the start (you have a newer version than this) but I ignored it and installed all. I then checked with driver max and still crosses but then I thought OK I will install the newest one again and it did so quickly. I then checked driver max and no change... the drivermax program still thinks I have an older version (which I clearly don't).

Note that I did not restart in any of the above steps due to intel program installer not asking me to... so I assume if it doesn't ask me, then I don't need to.

EDIT: Surely it is possible that I have the latest drivers and I should not worry about what drivermax says right? I mean for that update where all those drivers apply (which out of the 7 remaining it applied to all 6). So then the only thing left for me to update is the BIOS (assuming the above didn't also take care of it) and this:

Intel(R) 82801 PCI Bridge - 244E

6.0.6002.180057.0.1.1011

Very strange .On Intel website must be incorrect information about drivers versions

Right now.I also think now the DriverMax and other likely programs mistakes (probably due to incorrect information on manufacturer website) and you have already the newest drivers now.Leave drivers only update BIOS ...

Yeah but from the link you gave me I was unable to update bios (i.e. I clicked on chipset and download it but it said I had a newer version). Unless you meant for me to click on a different page from the link you gave me: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- download_item_mkt

When you said motherboard, you also meant BIOS right? Or is bios and motherboard unrelated to the download (i.e. I need an actual separate update for the bios?)

edit:

Unless of course you meant this:

*I downloaded it though and it gave me a .ROM file which I have no idea how to open/use :s

You have to click on BIOS not on chipset!

Ah excellent. Now what do I do with the file!?

It is a .ROM file and I am not sure how to utilize it (when I just click on it it opens a text file with giverish text.

EDIT: This has gotten me a little bit worried:

By using this program will I be flashing the BIOS and will then everything get deleted??? :S

Yeah.It is true what people says in this link -updating BIOS is bit risky and only should be do if you really need (in these cases like your).Neverless you can hold with it for the moment - you have already updated some drivers (including for mouse) maybe you will have luck and you won't need update BIOS.But if you'll have still troubles you'll have to flash new BIOS

Yeah good point. I will play around with the computer for a bit and try and see if there any more crashes/freezes (so far so good). If worse comes to worse perhaps I will get the people I got the computer from to do it and back up all my data prior to doing so (it is still under warranty after all since I bought it very recently).

So yeah.... thank you for all of the help you did! Hopefully this might be useful to someone else out there that had a similar problem.

Till then I will be sure to check this place from time to time.
Kind regards.

My Computer

Right so it has been two days and my computer has been freezing and crashing after doing things and that above error message still crops up. Now before I do anything with the BIOS I think I would prefer to explore other options... If you can think of any that is hehe....

My Computer

OK this post can be marked as fixed. I just bought Windows 7 and the error is no longer appearing and thankfully my computer is no longer crashing! So all is well.
