Solved ExpressCard 54 (USB3.0) Wont work on Vista (Error 10 on Device Manager)

I recently bought an ExpressCard54 to add USB 3.0 to my old Windows Vista 2007 Laptop (I was intending to use it to clone hard drives with high Speed USB 3 Equippment) and when i installed it everything was fine until i tried to install drivers, the system crashed, it seems that the drivers in the CD included were for Windows 7 and above, so i looked up in the Microsoft Catalog and found Windows Vista drivers, installed them and the system didnt crash, but it gave me Error 10 and it wasnt Working even after restarting and trying with Fresco Logic (Brand of the Card) Generic Drivers for Vista

I have Windows Vista SP2 6003 x86 (I installed All Windows Vista and Server 2008 Updates i could [I have over 500 Updates installed including updates for Office 2010 and .NET])
All drivers up to date in their Windows Vista version

Install the driver framwork update windows6.0-kb2864202-x64.msu ( if you already have it, it will just say not applicable )

Then install the xhci and ( optionally) the uasp drivers. All in the attached zip file.

I couldnt install the xHCI Driver, gives me error that there is no compatible device (i run 32 bit WinV and tried both 32 and 64 bit drivers)

Did you browse to the driver from device manager?

DISM++ does not show me any "Driver" option in te pane

No, dism++ cant install drivers on vista. It can only do drivers for win7 and newer. Dism++ can install updates on vista.

Yes, i tried, that was the first thing i tried

I used peimg to install drivers in vista boot.wim and vuisetup for install.wim

I am not sure how you would coax them into an already installed vista image.

Working on my vista - I had previously integrated them into installation media.



You could try pnputil command example
pnputil.exe -i -a c:\usbcam\USBCAM.INF -> Add and install driver package

Vista x64 Seems to run ok on 365 mobo with 8th gen cpu. No igpu drivers, so just using the basic vga graphics.
Separate graphics card should work fine.

You could run double driver and see if you can restore from the backed up usb3 I have included.

When i try to restore it gives me the Error: Cannot find the specified module: "dd.dll"

I assume that is the modified xhci driver from MSFN thread Intel USB3 (XHCI) driver for Windows Vista x86/x64 in which you posted August 8, 2020 to say you got it working in Vista boot.wim. Unfortunately that thread has two reports of failure from very advanced users. Another modified driver has been mentioned at MSFN, USB 3.x/XHCI Generic driver for Win7 and Vista.

The good news is that i could install the drivers (DD did it) , the bad ones is that they are not visible in device manager and the ExCard54 is still not working
