Issues relating to build 6003

I am running Windows Vista x64 build 6002. When I try to install the platform update that's for server 2008, it just says either "This update is not applicable to your system." or "Some updates were not installed: [update id]". I have tried multiple things but I just can't get it to work. I want to update to build 6003 so I can use the Vista Extended Kernel.

Another recent post of yours states, “The Vista PC has every official update installed.” It follows that Platform Update for Windows Vista is installed, and therefore Platform Update for Server 2008 would not be applicable to your system.

Here’s a recent thread at MSFN: extended kernel compatibility with server 2008 updates? (Part 2)

Ok thank you. I should update the post that states that it's up to date. There are probably straggler updates that I omitted.

I wouldn’t be concerned about the possibility that a few old security patches might be missing (it’s not like they would keep you secure in 2023), but you might want to search Installed Updates to see if you have all four Platform Update components from 2009 installed:

KB960362
KB971512 (Graphics, Imaging, and XPS)
KB971513
KB971514

Also the Platform Update Supplement from 2011 (which, along with KB971512, was included in the IE9 standalone installer):

KB2117917

(I think the “Server 2008” versions would have the same KB numbers and file sizes.)
