As it works in safe mode, maybe you could ask for a bootlog from msconfig/boot
Pls attach the log.
We'll find the problem

okay, here it is.
WOW...your bootlog shows it doesnt load lots of required system drivers
I think you will need a clean fresh install of Vista to get these problems fixed...Just update to SP1 first before adding all your other software.

This Tutorial can help with the reinstall
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-vista.html
There are too many required system-files not loading correctly and it would take way too long to fix them all, its just not practical todo that so its a fresh clan install.
Hope it helps.
Steven
grasshopper,
Is your bios up to date?
Update your sata drivers
Check for irq conflicts
Did you try the "windows classic folders" option.
Also, follow this tutorial, maybe comes from a "bad" bag
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/70819-windows-explorer-folder-view-settings.html
i ran sfc in safemode, but the same error comes up. "windows found corrupt files but was unable to repair them, details are available in the cbs log."
You could have had it sorted out by now

Hi Steven,
Unfortunately not. Here is what the cannot repair sfcdetails says:
IMHO, nothing important and not relative to the explorer.
