Yep, but it is a school case and the cause is surely in front of us....
I resolved many weird problems except those where the faulty install has been cleaned, of course. ;)

@Grasshopper,

Can you name the last 5 or 6 progs that you have installed or uninstalled before this problem occured including ActiveX?

BTW, can you deinstall activex or any third party things you could have installed in IE.

programs before it happened, it was such a while ago i can hardly remember, there would have been: winace, - thats about all i can remember. I believe norton could have found a virus around the time it happened.

Have you checked for any mallware? As i saw you have too many programs opened, You could also make a registry scan and disable the services you dont need.
If that wont help, STFW, otherwise, i would format my PC.

The sad truth of the matter is that, as long as you have been going on with this thread, you could have had 10000 GB of programs and data copied over to a brand new installation by now. The reason we're suggesting a fresh install is that we have not been able to pinpoint *why* this is happening, but we know that it *is* happening - and you SFC scan logs show that you have a lot of errors in your system. There is really no other way to fix it - unless you want to spend more weeks hunting down each and every CLSID and trying to rebuild the registry from scratch with missing items, plus finding any / all missing .DLLs, other system files, any missing executable,s etc....

I know you don't *want* to - but your system is in a state of disrepair, and it would be remiss of us to *not* tell you to start all over - for all we know you may be approaching the point of no return, whereby one day you'll try to log in and it does not work - and then you *will* have to re-install - and then, it may just as likely be that you will not have the option to backup your files.

If nothing else, think of this as a preventive measure. The longer you wait, the worse it is going to get.

As for not having anything to back up to - can't you get another hard drive from a friend and install it, or else borrow someone's external drive for a weekend, or else go buy one? Trust me - you're facing a possible ticking time bomb - it may never go off, it may go off tomorrow - we just don't know.

BTW, while in the display pane (click in the one having problem) when you press: CTRL + (+ being the + sign in the numeric keypad), nothing happens?

Yep, but maybe one of them is perturbing your explorer.

Have a look at the date added of a particular addon which could have been installed about when your problem arised and disable it (them)

ONLY TRY THE EXPLORER/DE/OE/SHELL Fix the others might break Vista...Its the tickbox on the bottom right.

You will need to set the compatibiltiy mode as XP-SP2 and "RUN AS ADMIN".

i turned on my computer, logged on, and then opened realplayer to play some songs. While it was opening, a blue screen came up on the screen and it had "windows error recovery" it said some information about missing entrys in the registry or something, by the time i read it, the computer just shut down. I turned it back on and it was back to normal.

I can't even FIND windows explorer! Where is it? I need it desperately so I can copy some files from a CD into a folder on my computer.
