Accidental shutdown/sleep of laptop while updates installing

Hi all,
Recently my laptop notified me of some computer updates, this yellow window popped up and gave me the option to start now or delay the update for 4hrs so I delayed because I was busy. A few hours later I used my laptop again and about 20mins into using it, the laptop restarts itself without notifying me, to install these updates. While these updates are being installed it recommends you don't shutdown the computer. But my boyfriend shut my laptop lid without knowing. Now when I attempt to use it, the log in menu appears, but once it logs in, it logs me back out and takes me back to the original log in page. Ive tried rebooting several times but it hasn't solved this problem. I don't know how to fix this, if anyone could help it would be much appreciated,
Thanks :)

Hi Viviant11,

Please login in safe mode and check if you are able to login. Please use the following link for detailed instructions to go to safe mode: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/123496-safe-mode.html

If you are able to login in safe mode, then try to Perform System Restore (only if Software Configuration Changes were made) providing the link for your reference: System Restore - Microsoft Windows

NOTE: With system restore you will not lose any data from the computer, any new programs installed in the computer you would need to reinstall the programs back on the computer.

Kindly let me know the results.

Hi again,

Even though this restoring technique worked, my laptop has gone back to this same problem 2 days later! I restored the laptop before the problem had occurred. Should I take it to someone to fix?

Welcome
Before we bring it in and pay money, lets try to diagnose the problem first. It may very well be a hard drive problem. You may have damaged the hard drive when you shut it down. Download this software and lets see what it shows.
CrystalDiskInfo - Software - Crystal Dew World
When it shows the results it will be very easy to understand. Let us know what happens.

Hi Viviant11,

It looks like one of the update is causing this issue, perform system restore and then install one update at a time and check which update is causing the issue.

Kindly let me know the results.

Thanks richard, but I'm not sure how to download that software when the laptop doesn't allow me to log on? I'm currently on my phone because the laptop is inaccessible.

LOL, Good point. Your computer has a self diagnostic function. If you have your computer handbook, you can find out how to access it. If you have a problem, give us the make and model of the computer and we will help.

I checked the manual and did not see anything that would be helpful. Are there any beeps when you try to boot? Does it work in safe mode?

System restore is still not making any difference to the problem

Well then, the answer to your first question about using another computer, with the same version, (home Premium, etc) would work.
