Appcrash

I'm unsure if this is the right board for this. However, I would greatly appreciate any help shown my way.

I have recently been playing a game called Fantasy Earth Zero (FEZ) on the Hong Kong Servers (due to the North American servers being closed down). They recently produced a new update which required us to uninstall the old client, and install a new one. However, after switching clients I have been unable to open the client due to it crashing instantly:

feznotopening.jpg

I have been doing alot of trial and error to get this to work; to no avail. Firstly, thinking it may have been a problem with the download, checked the files of FEZ themselves. I used the installation file from a friend who had a working version of HK FEZ. This had the same result, as did replacing my game files with theirs.

Next I tried installing it on another computer with the working files. I had the same problem. This has me stumped as it feels like its too much of a coincidence that the file did not work on both my computers, but they worked on my friends. Both my computers use vista. On this one I received an error report which had "Fault Module Name: ntdll.dll" with "Exception Code: c00000fd". Unfortunately, I didn't think it would change, so I hadn't recorded everything yet. The error changed to the version below when I used another installer. This is absolutely baffling me, and I would greatly appreciate any help.

I know little about this stuff but it looks like a permissions type problem with the new client.

That does match up since I use the same programs on both computers. However, its not AVG, and im sure its not the firewall since I have that off. I think its the data execution prevention, completely forgot about that. I tried that awhile ago, and its how I had the ntdll.dll error with it.

Anyone know how to get this working?

Hello , In addition to what you have done, ensure you have Latest Flash and Java. go directly to adobe.com and the Java site to make sure < I also like using Psi Secunia to make sure I am updated.. It is free.. Post back if these are also up to date please.

Psi Secunia is pretty useful. I checked it out at your recommendation. Makes it alot easier to manage updates. My vista is sp2 and completely up to date, my java and flash are too. Anyone got anymore suggestions, theres an event which is lasting 2 more days, so I would really appreciate any help I can get as soon as possible.

Edit: Im pretty sure its the Data Execution Prevention measure since when I added FEZ.exe to the exceptions it changed from naming stackhash as the exception, to ntdll.dll. Has anyone got any clue how to get this working?

Edit: Rechecked my other computers specs. Its actually 7, not vista, but it has the same problem. Does anyone think the error logs would be helpful to post up here?

Hi,

Those files refer to Windows seven, are they from your PC & relating to this app crash?

Yeah, they're from my second PC, the windows 7 (64 bit) one. Considering i got this on both computers you'd think it would be the game files, but i've used my friends files which work for them, and redownloaded 2 or so times now. They use windows 7 (64 bit) as well, so I thought it'd work on my windows 7 computer, but im getting the same problem as my vista computer. Any help on either of these would be great.

They do the same thing, just have different versions of the error report since they have different operating systems. Or if im wrong, could someone clear this up?

Edit: Can someone tell me how many times I can rep. Is it once a day? Or perhaps once per solved issue? If theres a thread on this it would be helpful.

@wither 3, yeah i know theres no limit :p I just dont want to spam bumps, as long as its on the frontpage and theres nothing to respond to, i wont bump it. If someone can help me im sure they'll see it anyway :)

@lottiemansion, Thanks for the suggestions, ive actually tried those already =/ unfortunately those were the same client which i already had which caused i originally got the problem with. Theres actually a newer version which I tried which still has the same version. I'm pretty sure the clients fine since I've tried taking it off many sources (including a few I can confirm work with the same system), but I still get the problem. What confuses me is how my desktop and laptop both have this problem even though they use different operating systems.

Are all of your computers accessing the internet over the same device such as a cable modem? If so, that could be why they all have the same problem and it's possible that there's something in IE (if that's what you're using) or your network setup.

I think you answered my question. I have a cable modem and router. All 3 computers connect to the internet through that same cable modem whether directly or wirelessly.

I assume you have a laptop that you took to your friends house and connected to his network wirelessly via his router. That still doesn't rule out IE as a potential problem. You could try deleting your browsing history and disabling all add-ons to see if that made a difference.
