Thank you for the kindness + Interesting Chg of Subj!!!

See, that's what I'm talkin about; You coulda totally been like "Ah, nothin major to begin with, dude doesn't need to be involved, why waste the time writing the sentence." <- Small gesture; Shows the spirit of the site. That's why I came back on here when I saw this lonely post was still surviving. People still make efforts to have courtesy.

It's a rare thing these days. I know, I wrok on the tech. support frontline (for myself, which means I have no supervisor to say "Hey, mean customer, take this one, k?" ;-) ) So, not for nothin', but that meant something. Also, you were the one who set me straight when Iwas trying to tweak out my imagery to begin with!

BTW, after the fact, bootskin vs. logonstudio (stardock) vs. others... is it just me, or is Vista (in particular) or just LOGONSTUDIO the most overlooked product all around? People swear by WindowBlinds, or at least, Stardock does!

LogonStudio is, in my humble opinion, the easiest to use, simplest, just a teensy bit proprietary in that your format you save one in is their .logonstudiovista format, which is hardly cryptic to the point you'd forget why you saved it... so, yeah, I think it's a true blue good product. I'd say, much like eriversoft's FolderHighlight (a MUST for disorganized people like myself,) it's downfall is that you lose your progress when you do any even halfway intensive scrubbing, like:
- Yamicsoft Vista Manager's "Privacy Controls"
- jv16 Power Tool's Windows Cleaner
- (Note: CCleaner is gentle, doesn't hurt it)
- Anything abrasive, like Acelogix or beyond. (I never use Registry cleaners.)

...other than the fact that you may have to re-apply your logon skin (or, bootskin in SOME occurences,) I love the stuff. ...now, if I only had the money. (But, who doesn't* say that, right?)

PS - Heard of a phenomenal "potion" for A/V and A/M recently.
-Malwarebyte's (of course) Anti-Malware
+
-Avira AntiVir (I was skeptical, but it rocks socks); there's ALWAYS a 90+ day deal
& you must scrub it properly before re-installing!!!
+
SUPER Antispyware Portable
(Save to USB or CD, right-click on properties, unblock, then scan as COMPLETE, don't tweak anything except check for updates.)

Voila. Hardly anything can get past it or survive it. Even a bad case of Virtumonde/Virtumundo/Vundo - Zlob leavings / Worms... This has withstood the test of the titans for 4+ months for me. FYI you guys. Spread the word; My shop that I outsource (what I can't fix) to didn't want me leaking that little secret around...

...last step for security: Sysinternals' (Now Microsoft's) MS Autoruns to verify everything + TIS HijackThis (v2.0.2 now out.) Done.

The Old Timers who used to code in DOS and stuff said everything BUT those programs were n00b materials and I was miffed, but 120 days later I'm seeing their point.

At risk of being super nosy, why you guys waiting on an image? :geek:

Ironic! (Curiosity/cat...)

Idon't know what prompted the curiosity, but it got me thinking, after the fact, that is...

I've been browsing sites to see what's popular (why ESET NOD 32 is so popular and why people still take risks with "unofficial" Adobe products baffles me, but to each his/her own, I suppose,) but I keep seeing these "Vector" photo collections, most of which are very cool looking. They seem to be Photoshop/Corel Graphics Suite-related or graphics design-type startup type images or something.

To me, a vector is something architectural or geometrical, not a picture of a piece of art or origami or something... haha... I found it funny to see phrases like "1,000 Beautiful Nude Women Vectors! Download Here!"

Random musings of an undercaffienated underslept computer geek.

Custom boot screens on SP2?

Hello.
I've been googling for hours now, but can't seem to find an answer to this.

I've read the tutorial (By user Brink) on this website for changing your boot screen. Anyway, I tried using Vista Visual Master (which was in the tutorial) to change my boot screen, but ran into the error "Generate Boot Screen File Failed : Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Windows\system32\Boot\en-GB\winload.exe.mui'."

I can't seem to find out if the program is compatible with Windows Vista Service Pack 2. As such I can't tell if this error is due to my service pack or something else.

If this program is not compatible with my computer, apart from Bootskin Vista, is there anything else I can use to change my bootscreen?

My OS is: Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit Service Pack 2.

Thanks.

Hello Sol7,

Did you do step 2 in OPTION TWO to run the program as an administrator?

If so, please try the program in OPTION ONE instead to see if it may work better for you.

Hope this helps for now,
Shawn

Hi.
Sorry for the lack of a reply, but I can't shut down my computer right now, so I wasn't able to test the second program.

I have run the first program as administrator, but sadly this doesn't resolve the problem. The second program reports it's working correctly but I wont be able to test it until I can restart, which I can't yet because my computer is rather fond of the KSOD right now. It's a shame I can't use my own images with the second program, though. I don't suppose there's any other programs out there for this?

Thanks for the help.

Hello,
My boot screen is the one included with SP2, but I want to revert it to the boot screen included in the RTM of Vista.

EDIT: I am talking about the "hidden" Aurora boot screen.

I'm not sure how to restore that one unless you find a bootskin at StarDock (Option One) for it , but the one below with SP2 is pretty much the same though. Is this not the one you have with SP2?

Oh, shoot...
I do have that with SP2, but I miss RTM one.
Thank you, Brink.

Anyone have any modern-day Post SP2 options that allow easily changing the boot logo screen?

Hello Jody,

Does none of the options in the tutorial on the first page work for you?

I tried them, but I see they don't allow animated screens. That is indeed correct right?
:)
(I was having some issues running them initially but I got that working)
