Bsod during setup phase.

I just installed vista x64 using efi to a gpt partitioned crucial mx300 ssd.

On attempting to boot to setup phase it throws *** STOP: 0x0000001E (0xFFFFFFFFC0000005

Any ideas what could be causing that? It installs perfectly to a mechanical mbr partitioned HD using bios on the same machine.

Have you tried setting the BIOS to legacy mode (if it's not)?

When my dual boot MBR got messed up last year, I would repeatedly get the error you mentioned. I could never get past it. I got the ISO from

Ex_Brit and it installed without issue. I should note that this was to a HDD.

I believe you have an MSFN account (assuming this is you), so I would suggest posting there with a question like this.

S1W2 (that sounds like the class of a US Navy nuclear powered ship of yesteryear), most threads I read about this issue say that one should set the BIOS to ACHI before attempting the install. However, I don't remember the specifics but, it seems to me that doing that prevents one doing something like inserting the key. I'd need to do a lot of research on that.

You didn't mention if you looked at the post I mentioned or, if you did, trying what was suggested.

Also, at what point do you get that error? It always happened to me after Microsoft Windows started. In my case, I am using an NVIDIA motherboard and it uses a NVIDIA network service which apparently isn't on the original reinstall disc I got from CyberPower PC when I bought the system. It can't be disabled in the BIOS.

It is after the image has applied when trying to boot into setup phase.

What are you referring to? I haven't tested migrating vista from mbr disk to gpt disk using aomei part assist.

I have been using aomei stuff for years. But as above, I haven't tried migrating an already installed vista os from mbr to gpt disk using it.

I have just converted an mbr spinning HD to gpt. Same issue with vista installation.

Therefore, the problem is not because of the crucial ssd. It has something to do with efi boot.

I haven't got time to keep looking into this efi boot issue atm.

More interested in figuring out how new installations of vista can be updated.

Because it seems MS will be removing the updates on 3rd August. They will no longer be available to download, from what I can tell.

Download links for all Vista SP2 updates might soon be as useful as anything, assuming the updates are still available from the catalog after Windows Update SHA-1 based endpoints discontinued. I thought you made yourself a custom ISO with nearly all the updates anyway?

It is not for me. There are others who might want a way of doing it. Unfortunately there isn't anything like simplix pack for vista. My tests with wsusoffline haven't turned out well so far

Not sure I would recommend that to the average punter.

From what I can tell, the vista updates will not be available from the catalog after 3rd Aug. That is the whole point of trying to find a way for other users to update their installation media.

After reviewing SHA-1 Windows content to be retired August 3, 2020, I believe you just might be correct. Unless “the average punter” has a stockpile of standalone installers, he would be out of luck. Perhaps I should add some emphasis to my signature? But it’s a little late.
