Sorry for the necropost but since I return to this thread every few years or so due to the constant issues, it's time to return a favour to the community for those who are still using their CanoScan Lide scanners and are frustrated with the driver issue
TLDR:
Even if the drivers are OK, scanning still needs a program to run and some of these need special permission. Make sure you run your scanning software app/program as admin, otherwise you may still get errors when running any software with the scanner.
The full explanation (Win10):
The original instructions are great, I would like to add a point for those who are still struggling, in case the scanning itself still does not work despite drivers OK and scanner recognized:
Once you have the drivers, you may still have issues, but this is mostly not scanner related but app related. I am using the "QuickScan" app by Renjith (find it as "Quick Scan Portable" on Softpedia) and despite the scanner being recognized and working through tests, still I couldn't scan with it last time after years of properly using the software.
The way to solve this:
- right click the exe file of the app, select Properties
- Choose tab Compatibility
- Select under Settings: "Run this program as administrator".
- Apply (or OK).
- Run the scanning program now. Scanning should start without issue.
Not sure whether people get issues with other apps or software as well, but since I am not using the legacy software of Canon anymore, it seems that admin rights are needed to avoid any issues with third party software.
When I do not use this solution, I get an error, indicating any of a number of issues (TWAIN, resolution, size, etc.), not making it clear what the real issue is, while it is merely the admin permission.
Also, you will note that once you applied admin rights and untick the box again, it will continue to scan properly. I do advise to leave it ticked however, as after the next restart it may reset again and if that's years later, you might have forgotten what the solution was, like I did

For that reason I recommend to save the whole solution of this thread for yourself in an info folder in the scanner folder, so you don't have to look it up again (and many forums close topics after some years, leaving you stranded without remembering what fixed it).
Enjoy the continued use of your scanner, F the obsolescene society!
